About this deal

Laser Measure – This is the basic mode that uses the laser to take a single real-time distance measurement. It’s a costly piece of kit that will limit its take-up to professionals and only the most dedicated hobbyists. Still, the promise of smart devices is that the software can be updated to improve them, and it wouldn't be hard to make the user interface and functionality much easier to use. I can imagine that some items may be difficult to measure with the laser and it would be easier to use the wheel. Also, since the tripod attaches to the wheel, the device can be rotated as required 360 degrees, which is essential for the point and curve scanner functions.

Meaning, if you are on the 8th screen (furthest to the right), you can’t easily access the first screen with one more swipe to the left. Three new added modes come with Space/Volume Auto Calculation, 2D to 3D floorplan display and label measurements directly onto the snapped object. Indeed, we follow strict guidelines that ensure our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers. First, the touchscreen is not very sensitive (at least not to my fingers) and requires slow and deliberate actions for swiping and selecting. If you're measuring a blueprint rather than a physical object, you can set the scale, and either way you're more likely to get a precise measurement than if you were reading off a ruler or tape measure.Having to send data points one by one means juggling the two devices whatever you're measuring: it may not be convenient to pull your phone out over and over again on a building site. When we imported the plan to the phone app, it was placed at an angle on the grid – and when we tried to import a rolling measure for the size of a door we placed on the floorplan, it kept telling us it was four-something inches rather than the 28 inches we'd just measured. Whether using 3D floorplans for professional use or daily handiwork, the MEAZOR 3D brings a new level of convenience for gaining measurements and planning the use of spaces. By selecting the unit label on the main screen (“Inch” in this case), a dropdown menu appears that allows changing units (middle screenshot above). I used the MEAZOR several times over the course of a couple weeks for a total use time of approximately 2 hours before the battery needed to be recharged.

This is convenient since you don’t have to go back into settings, unless you want to change from English to metric. It is possible that your calibrated surface is not perfectly level, which will result in all of your measurements being off. You can chose imperial or metric measurements and then flip between millimetres, centimetres and metres or inches, feet and yards. Our favourite tool was the spirit level, which is extremely accurate and gives you a reading both side to side and front to back without needing to flip the device round. In addition to these six basic features, the device all has two additional “Pro” functions that will perform rectangular area measurement and a “Pythagorean” mode that will calculate the third side of a triangular measurement.

This app SEEMS to show measurements as a feature, but it's only for manually designating dimensions. If you do get this to work, you can build a simple floorplan and export it as a PDF, JOG or DXF file – pick the latter and you can use it in a real CAD package. Along with the product, the MEAZOR 3D lifetime free app improved to the newest version and enables to share and export three different types of CAD files seamlessly. It will give a map of the curve and provide the total length of the curve, but it won’t be accurate enough to build anything with it.

And it's offering some kind of 3D features - sounds like it's identified the wrong product or firmware - I declined, as it seems like an opportunity to brick the thing. With 3D Displacement Mode, MEAZOR 3D is the first laser measurer that allows the user to move freely in any space and auto-stitches every edge of the room. The laser measurer is accurate and can cope with long distances, as long as it's not too bright: we measured up to 15 meters comfortably, but struggled to reach the promised 25m. However, there are several issues with the other modes of operation, such as a level mode that requires calibration to a level surface, and a Pythagorean mode that isn’t well suited to a vertical measurement.MEAZOR 3D is the world’s most compact and 6-in-1 multi-function laser measure powered with 3D technology. The 3D Displacement Mode auto-stitches multiple rooms and captures the entire floor plan, saving plenty of time. If you want to create a floorplan, or just work out the length of a piece of wood you need for a new shelf, a laser measuring tool should be a lot handier than a tape measure. Since the imported lines are not perfectly straight due to measurement inaccuracies, I’d use AutoCAD to modify the lines, or use the scan lines as a template to develop the drawing.
