About this deal

Unfortunately for Fayne, she wasn't aware that Ilira had a spellscar that caused her to burn the flesh of anyone she touched.

In 1996, MacDonald’s first novel, Fall on Your Knees (Vintage), won the Commonwealth Prize for Best First Fiction, the People’s Choice Award and the Libris Award.Fayne only has a base Defense of 727, so I can’t see how she would last long enough to improve my UNM Damage unless I somehow come up with insanely better gear than I currently have on FB. I loved Ann-Marie MacDonald’s previous novels, particularly Fall on Your Knees and The Way the Crow Flies.

The bird that Charlotte and her father create from bits and pieces of other birds serves as a symbol of our unwillingness to accept differences. It takes place in the late nineteenth century on a vast property between England and Scotland in the moorlands. Despite moving around on pavements and in drawing rooms, Charlotte and Mae seem less safe than they had been while out walking among the moorland bogs around Fayne House. This is conflicting with the behaviour that I see on Clan Bosses (I can confirm Normal and Hard Void affinity though I would think it applies to all) where I from time to time see multiple Warmaster procs (A1 damage -> Warmaster damage -> Infernal Resilience -> A1 damage -> Warmaster -> Infernal Resilience; same story for A3 but with 3 hits).

When Charlotte’s appetite for learning threatens to exceed the bounds of the estate, her father breaks with tradition and hires a tutor to teach his daughter “as you would my son, had I one. Her face had silver eyes, pointed fangs, and a nasty scar across the cheek from where she had been hit by a crossbow bolt fired by Ilira. The daughter of a member of Canada's military, she was born at an air force base near Baden-Baden, West Germany. There’s bogs, tutors, castles, American ingenues, an asylum, unlikely siblings, mean aunts, and above all a queer joie de vivre that keeps you utterly compelled, even through the worst of what the Victorian era could do to people of marginalised genders. For instance, the mothers of two characters are revealed to be characters previously featured in the book.

Her idyllic existence is shadowed by the magnificent portrait on the landing in Fayne House which depicts her mother, a beautiful Irish-American heiress, holding Charlotte's brother, Charles Bell. What I particularly enjoyed about Fayne was how Ann-Marie MacDonald so often wrong-foots the reader. According to entertainment historian Richard Anthony Baker, "They were fast, they were sophisticated and they were unique.

I could smell the bog on the grounds of Fayne, taste Clarissa’s social default dessert of “pooding”, and hear the ruckus at Miss Gourley’s Refuge. Pre-requisite: Fayne to be equipped with Lifesteal Set so she could replenish her health via Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery) in Clan Boss. Even if you have enough Accuracy to win the Accuracy-v-Resistance calculation, a certain percentage of your debuffs will still be resisted. The narrative also forces the reader to evaluate and re-evaluate characters, attitudes and social norms – a thought-provoking read all round. This one didn’t wow me as much, though Im willing to admit that this is my second consecutive 700+page book so I might be fatigued. Disguised as Rujia, Fayne introduced herself to Ilira as an ally and even risked her own life to assist Ilira. Then I verified by watching the damage number and to my surprise the additional procs do add towards the total damage meter. I feel like she does a lot of attack damage is is a god when against a single champion or boss, but is a tad weak against attacks and aoe hits.
