Award-winning DP Stuart Harris, has worked on such films as Ken Russell’s The Boyfriend and David Hare’s Wetherby, as well as more than 4000 ads and music videos, including Pink Floyd's High Hopes. Beyond this, we have an Employee Action Group to engage across the board with external speakers, grassroots ideas and actions, and advice about how we can all employ carbon saving behaviours in our personal and professional lives. This is worth mentioning because I was puzzled by a couple of comments I spotted on Goodreads reviews shortly after I finished the book, bewailing the lack of a proper ending.

It was all about face-to-face meetings, which I still believe can strengthen a relationship like nothing else. With six big new clients in the last 12 months, and our work for the likes of McDonald’s and Skoda going from strength to strength, she couldn’t be joining at a better time. In Emily's timelines, as her life became increasingly dominated by Arthur, the married man she was having an affair with, I was so sure that this was building up to a woman scorned and driven to extreme revenge by a man stringing her along with promises of a future and then, about halfway through, came the truth that linked up the two timelines. The story then alternates between the affair between Arthur and Emily in the leafy London suburb of Walnut Grove and Tabby's Goldilocks type stumbing upon a bed to sleep in and being found by Emmie Mason. Several passengers take shelter in a deserted country house, where the fire has been lit and the table laid for tea – but no one is at home.I love being surprised by a mystery, so I loved these unexpected twists, though one is extremely sad.

I was very young, very naïve and certainly not ready to be working with someone of his calibre but I remember how he included me, listened to me and patiently explained things so I could sound like I knew what I was talking about when I went back to my client! She is not a fluffy, perfect character, but the absurdity and heartache of what happens to her makes her painfully human and much more likeable.Last March, Leo Burnett welcomed agency alum Mark Elwood back as executive creative director, 22 years after he first joined as a typographer. I was really looking forward to reading this, having previously read and enjoyed Candlish’s later novels, ‘ The Swimming Pool‘ and ‘The Sudden departure of the Frasers’, and I wasn’t disappointed. You can have the best producers, the best directors, the best crew, but it means nothing without a strong creative idea for everyone to rally behind and push forward. No-one is unscathed in this novel and Candlish paints a beautifully fraught and thought-provoking portrait of each.
