Keiko survives her first encounter with the siblings, but she sustains brain damage that leaves her unable to talk. Dissolving Classroom is a collection of short stories by mangaka Junji Ito that follows brother and sister duo Chizumi and Yuuma. Although this isn't his best work, some of the images was both horrible and beautiful ( beautiful in a way we all know). As Yuuma keeps apologizing to her, Nao gets progressively worse looking and is ultimately disfigured, with her eyes hanging out of her eye sockets. The Azawa parents introduce themselves to the neighbors upon moving in, handing out a gift of mochi which, after eating, makes the neighbors very ill.

Animated Actors: The brief epilogue chapter features Yuuma and Chizumi out-of character, apparently having been played by actors the whole time, to spell out the paranoia and allegory fueling the manga. Brown Note: The dark energy produced by Yuuma's apologies causes people's brains to melt, and eventually dissolves their entire bodies into goop.

As I previously discussed in my post on his semi-autobiographical work depicting his troubled relationship with fiancée’s cats, Junji Ito is one of the most unique creators working in the manga field today. After being pulled partially out of the ground, they are then rapidly dragged back into the holes until they disappear entirely, and the children are never found again. When Keiko gets home, her parents are lethargic and confused, and have thick mucus dripping from their noses. If just a couple of these stories showed up in a more varied collection of Ito stories, they would have been more interesting. It turns out, for his sister, Chizumi who apparently is a demon possessed by a snake, devoted to devil worship.

This collection of short stories can be read on their own but I recommend that you read the stories as a large story. Though not as good as Uzumaki and Gyo, Dissolving Classroom makes the act of excessive apologizing into an incredibly unbelievable yet entertaining piece of horror. For instance, Junji Ito mentions in an interview that mood and atmosphere are what he considers most important to writing horror stories, [9] which can be seen in this manga as he develops the characters feelings and interactions with Yuuma and Chizumi.At San Diego Comic-Con 2018, a "Best and Worst Manga" panel included the series in their "Worst Manga for Anyone, Any Age" picks of the year. Keiko Arisu: Keiko first appears as girl in Yuuma's high school class, and initially befriends Yuuma and attempts to befriend Chizumi. For example: A girl's hair rebels against being cut off and runs off with her head; Girls deliberately catch a disease that makes them beautiful but then murder each other; a woman treats her skin with lotion so she can take it off and look at her muscles, but the skin dissolves and she tries to steal her sister's skin, etc.
