About this deal

Products that contain small parts may pose a choking hazard and should not be used by children under 3. The sort of stuff that one doesn't expect to find in a book such as this, and another aspect of what makes PINK BOOTS such an enjoyable read. Many of the scientists and animal species mentioned in the book are familiar to me, although the fossa, a cat-like carnivore related to the mongoose family was a new one. Her adventures in some of the planet's most dangerous places are unbelievable, and the work she has done for endangered species is very inspiring.

Some terminology that may be used in this description includes: Shelf Wear Shelf wear (shelfwear) describes damage caused over time to a book by placing and removing a book from a shelf. I would have loved to read more about her cheerleading days, about how those experiences related to her explorations. There are some neat stories in the book about Mireya's experiences observing various animals all over Africa, but in the end the biography felt trite and the stories were disjoint. You will also share in her frustration when she recounts being judged for her looks and her time as a cheerleader. They are booted out of the best sleeping sites, displaced from preferred feeding trees, and as a general rule, made to feel useless and inferior.

This book is all that and more, it is filled with hearting-warming tales, endless adventures, and one truely amazing story. She travels to South America and the Congo both and braves worms in her feet, scorpion bites, killer bee stings, cock roaches in her pants, possible gorilla attacks, blood infections, and all for the love of monkeys. She becomes an NFL cheerleader (which will always be brought up in regards to her career) and later goes on to get an anthropology degree, explore across the world, become a National Geographic host, and to earn her Ph. I loved the simple and limited way she describes meeting and falling in love with her husband (as well as what she tells, which isn't much, about the circumstances of their meeting and their romance). The title piqued my curiosity, but the actual explanation of how Mireya Mayor went from cheerleader to scientist is not very interesting. The author had some observations about having been a Pro-sports cheerleader, some complaints about criticism of her being female and beautiful which I found to be a useless case of a bit too thin skinned.

Read more about the condition New with box: A brand-new, unused, unworn and undamaged item in its original packaging (such as the original box or bag) and/or with the original tags attached. The book itself even ends with a chapter of how she tries to juggle the life of a working mother - even if her work brings her away from her children much more so than most. But as I noted above, environmental security will be an issue in the Twenty-First Century, as China and India gear up their industrial production, as everyone continues the race for resources, and as third world countries try to raise their standards of living. Sellers are responsible for following applicable laws and regulations, including posting items with accurate labeling and warnings. Mireya Mayor holds nothing back - from growing up in a family displaced by political oppression, to finding fame on the sidelines of professional football fields, to her triumphs and challenges in some of the most remote places on earth.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Mayor's writing tone is very conversational and engaging; it makes me wonder if her scientific papers would be more palatable than other exceptionally dry ones that I have read in the past. Between 1990 and 2000, 3 million hectares of forests were cleared in Africa, Latin America, and the Carribean. While their moves and enthusiasm have remained largely the same, the cheerleaders' hairstyles, outfits and make-up are true relics of the era, showing just how much fashion has changed over the decades.the writing in this book is choppy, with no real flow and a little too much unnecessary foreshadowing. Her red lipstick matches her ensemble, and her hair is styled in a voluminous pouf on top of her head. Lala Kent, 33, reveals she wants a 2nd child via IUI as it's silly 'to wait to fall in love with a man' to have a baby.
