FOUR FUN COLOURS | Calmer Kids is made from safe, non-toxic, soft and durable silicone that comes in four fun colours (Red, Yellow, Blue and Translucent). They are hollow and accurately reflect sound into our ears making trigger noises much more manageable. Standard foam or wax earplugs reduce volume anywhere from 10 to 30 decibels (dB), muffling sounds as they do so. But they could make observations based on the technical data that’s available about the earplugs online. Thankfully, she had been taken into a garage by a neighbor to ride out the rest of the firework show.

We discovered very quickly that Calmer were very popular with the autistic community and were extremely effective at helping people manage sound sensitivities that impact their day-to-day life. Loop Experience earplugs make harmful noise more manageable, reducing volume by 18dB, 27dB, and even an additional 5dB.

That means noise is reduced instead of blocked out – so you shouldn’t miss any important sounds or communication. Some of these earplugs were undoubtedly more comfortable, thanks to the soft ear tips with a choice of sizes. However, the earplug brands I’ve been testing made other adjustments to the design of the pipe, like changing its shape, filling it, adding extra pipes or adding material to it. Some people with auditory sensitivities still prefer regular earplugs, especially for specific purposes, like getting to sleep whilst travelling. All of our products are new unless stated and come with a 40-day money-back guarantee and a 5-year warranty as standard.

That means the constant mechanical buzzes, beeps, and hums of our modern world scrape through my brain and down my spine. I can't wear ear defenders or ear plugs because they make me feel disoriented, like I am under water. But one thing that’s common across both types of ADHD is the struggle to focus in environments that are filled with distractions. Aside from the obvious seclusion while using them, the packaging for the Loop Experience earplugs isn't very inviting for those who are vision impaired.

We also bring peace of mind to many pet parents who want to provide their own dog hearing protection, and will share in their own words. However, Jérémie Voix says the Vibes might not be ideal for everyday use when it comes to sound sensitivities. Earplugs reduce the amount of external noise that reaches your eardrums, lowering the volume to a more tolerable level. On this count, the Calmer gave me a clear improvement in my experience in noisy ambient environments. You can wear them beneath a set of over-ear headphones or while listening to music through your stereo.

For me, my subjective experience of the Calmer was that sounds felt a little less grating: living on a busy street, I found myself persisting for longer without needing music or other distractions to dampen the room while I was working. They made zero difference to our son and actually just exacerbated his anxiety as he was so worried about them falling out. But there is a way to take the edge off the background noise, helping you to stay calm and in control.

And for people with ADHD, all that background noise can make it even harder to focus, whether you’re at work, trying to study, have a mountain of household chores to contend with, or simply want to read your book in peace and quiet. He explains that if you’re on the tube or metro and you’re having a conversation, it’s the low frequency that’s masking your speech. It takes us a second to realize, another dog has just ran away due to the loud 4th of July firework show. Some are explicitly marketed at people with auditory sensitivities and hypersensitivity, whereas others can be used for a range of purposes (commuting, going to concerts, etc), and helping people to better manage their sound sensitivity is cited as one of many benefits.

Davies tells me these earplugs are examples of passive acoustic filter design – passive means there's no active electronics on board. This is vital if these are going to be worn for more extended periods and not prove to be prohibitive for socialising or staying safe. They have simple stems, making them easy to put in and take out, which are also discreet because they’re transparent. If your goods develop a fault within the warranty period, we'll quickly repair or replace the item for you. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. But because auditory sensitivities can affect people all day and every day, there are different requirements for usage, style, and the amount of noise that’s blocked out. And rather than being overtly marketed at people with auditory sensitivities, these come recommended because you can easily change the level of attenuation depending on your environment. For those who want high-fidelity earplugs, Loop’s offerings work as advertised regardless of the type you choose.
