I used to be a big fan of Synology, until I learned what kind of clothes the emperor was (not) wearing. As Raspberry Pi 4 has removed the biggest limitation of the board for NAS use, Argon Eon offers access at 1Gbps via Ethernet. I read a lot today in the How To's and the FAQ for the Nextcloud installation and i also tried the first installation but i failed.

It’s unreasonably loud and having it on all the time will quickly turn your office peace into annoyance. are attached to the back of the chassis via screws – installation is relatively simple, but if you are going to use big drives, remember you can use only 2 of them and both must be fitted to the ports on the inside.Looks like the screen corrupts when the fan's set below "100" and breaks entirely at the slowest speeds. Effectively the same drives, though the Helios64 ones are newer and what was a WD Red is now a WD Red Plus, in the same room, at the same 20-degree ambient temperature: 9-11 degrees cooler across the board. But rather than another wedge shaped Raspberry Pi case bound for our desktop, the EON is bound for our living room, office or small business where it helps turn your Pi into a network-attached storage drive (NAS). Switching to a Pi-based system means I can use mainline Ubuntu instead of clownshoes Armbian - and that's worth its weight in gold.

That’s not an issue as the moving boot to SSD will sort that out, and I can always re-format these in OMV. Did some experimentation, 'cos I'll do literally anything instead of actual work: the OLED works fine at fan speeds of 14-100. In this case the max HDD temp is 40 (which in my case is the NVME device), so the fanspeed is set to 25. The fan will be triggered by one of two separate settings, the CPU temperature, or the HDD temperature. Perhaps the “move back” isn’t the best term for starting everything from scratch with the Argon Eon case, but it’s not my first Raspberry Pi NAS – so it felt back like going back to the roots.

As reboots of all machines involved didn’t help much (it found the server, and allowed for SSH but didn’t fix the web UI issue. If the fan speed is set to above 1 and the fan has *not* been triggered, it seems to work fine; if it *has* been triggered the bottom few lines are entirely missing. I haven’t tested it, but something tells me you could have a USB boot from that port and drop the need for the microSD card entirely.
