About this deal

On the first day of class I learned that for sixteen years Emily’s constant companion was Carlo, a Newfoundland dog.

With enemies at all sides closing in quick, she must tread carefully or she might find the only man to save her isn’t the White Knight she loves but the Dark King she loathes. The Reckless Afterlife of Harriet Stoker’ begins with the death of the anti-heroine, Harriet, in the abandoned building of Mulcture Hall, and follows her as she experiences the afterlife there, meeting Felix, Kasper, Rima, and Leah, who welcome her warmly. This book singlehandedly revived the dialogue as a genre for contemporary philosophy, and it is now something of a modern classic. When Harriet Stoker dies falling from a balcony in a long-abandoned building, she discovers a world of ghosts with magical powers – shape-shifting, hypnosis, or even the ability to possess the living. Butler swerves the problem by sending everyone there, be they Hitler, Nixon, Humphrey Bogart, the Clintons, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg or Céline Dion.Squailia’s characterisations are refreshing: the foppish Leopold l’Eclair behaves and speaks like he’s been propping up the underworld’s bars since his execution in revolutionary France, absorbing the brightest colloquialisms he’s heard along the way like linguistic chlorophyll. The poems, without self-indulgence or confession, are intimate as they address 'My love', children or friends. Sometimes when she walked up to the VIP level of the club she held her head down in shame and I kept thinking, what are you so ashamed of? By the time the two main characters finally started to make definitive progress, it was either MEH or it had taken so long to get there that I just didn't care anymore. Because the King of Hell is back and now he has a new bride to keep hidden from the world below…a world that shows no mercy, right along with one of their rulers.

I loved the romance, the fact that I couldn't guess what Draven was, and the secondary characters seemed very real. What strikes me most in this story are the seemingly irrelevant connections we make in life and how those connections could have a deep and lasting impact. In the Eighth Circle, Dante sees a queue of “sinners” lining up to be butchered by a demon; their wounds heal as they circle back to rejoin the line, only to be sliced again. Anticipating the western "discovery" of near-death experiences by nearly 20 years, Hultkrantz recognized them as phenomena distinct from other extraordinary experiences such as dreams and vision quests.Leslie Kean is a smart and down-to-earth narrator, equipped with an objective yet curious sensibility, and I found Surviving Death to be an addicting read that spoke to my skepticism. However, as events take an epic turn, Dominic has no choice to give in to the pull that he feels towards Kiera, and as it turns out, she is so much more than the broken girl from England, she just doesn't know it yet. After all, Dominic Draven, isn’t what he seems and Afterlife isn’t just a nightclub…No, for Draven, it’s a castle he rules from. Draven is just one cool alpha male, his strength and charisma just drip feed off the pages and Keira is a great heroine, feisty but also damaged, she leaves you quite emotional in places.

Could it really be that Draven is keeping secrets from Keira, and if so, how is she ever to reach him when he is hiding in plain sight? An accessible and big-hearted novel that explores belief and forgiveness as a boy grapples with his faith and sexuality on a rollicking family road trip to Bible World. The only thing you get an understanding of him is that he is an overbearing, presumptuous, controlling, stalking, asshole. I knew this was never a phase or something I would “outgrow”; the spell had been cast and I was forever in its power. Now the reckless twenty-first century girl and the fearless Roman gladiator must face the final battle. She clearly wants us all to fully realise her setting but we are bombarded with so much description that the pace isn't right. Frank, her Brother-in-law has connections to the club as he supplies the security and manages to get Keira a barmaid job there. But with the vampire leader of Evernight waging war on the wraiths, Bianca’s former home has become the most dangerous place she could be, despite the new powers her ghostly transformation has given her.

Keira can’t help seeing the handsome man before her, she can’t help the dreams that consume her and neither can she stop him from wanting her.Keira is a shy girl running from a horrific past, a girl who belongs in the shadows of a small town, a place where she can start a new life. All at once she is captivated and plunged into a world she never knew existed, but the deeper her obsession with Draven becomes, the harder it is to decide. However, the truth that she thought she knew will soon unravel, and Keira finds herself following the ribbon of lies all the way to the very gates of hell. I’ve had a lifelong interest in the ancient world, anthropology, myth, religions – and extraordinary phenomena such as near-death experiences. Warning: This book not only has sexual content but also two high sex drives and one possessive Alpha male used to getting his own way!
