About this deal

The SB-910 Speedlight operates as a hot shoe mounted Speedlight, remote unit or wireless Commander (with up to four channel options) capable of controlling as many as three remote groups (A,B and C) and an unlimited number of SB-910, SB-900, SB-700 or SB-R200 units. I like the basic manual: it has pictures showing examples of what you're trying to do, and how to set the camera and flash to do it. There is almost no audible noise from the inverter as it recycles; just a light noise if you used much power and then it goes silent.

The SB-910 fully supports the creative photography of advanced amateurs to professionals who demand the ability to make the most of light to achieve their individual intent. The Nikon Speedlight SB-910 is an excellent professional flash, a slightly improved version of the SB-900.HD Digital Frame is a great way to put your portfolio on display and a great way to surface forgotten memories.

I miss the dedicated LCDs of flashes like the SB-600, which are much sharper, cleaner and clearer than the less-legible dot-matrix displays of newer flashes like this SB-910 and the SB-700. I’m continually astonished at how camera manufacturers keep ISO buried 1-2 levels deep, even on camera bodies. You can repeatedly press a button to get to new settings, or you can press the button and then use the control wheel to get a specific setting faster. My comparisons of SB-910 and SB-900 You will find a little lower, but for now the main points when using the SB-910 flash. You can even put the wide diffuser over the gel holder, so Nikon was actually thinking more about combos of things we want to do with flash than they have in the past. For compatibility with all cameras, use the SB-600, or you'll have to use the SB-910 in one of its less fashionable work-around modes. I don’t need a complete re-design of the flash head swivel like Sony, although Sony’s is BRILLIANT, but at the very least I’d like a rear-oriented swiveling flash head. The SB-910's color correction filters are critical to get the color of the flash to match indoor lighting; without these filters, the flash light would look too blue indoors at home or in good restaurants, and too purple under fluorescent lights.

The SB-5000 is their first DLSR flash (Speedlight) that you can control using "radio waves" or RF to control the flash around the corner out of sight as they say. There's other evidence of not fully understanding the working photographer: the plastic stand now has a plastic threaded socket for mounting on stands or heads. maybe if I just do Transmitter and receiver it would be fine, my problem was more on the flash units. The SB-910 offers selection from three illumination patterns (standard, even, center-weighted), allowing users to choose the pattern most appropriate for the scene.

People could still use their AA batteries with a tray or something, worst case scenario; camera battery grips have had this technology for years now. There is almost nothing under the sun that could go wrong with a flash that doesn’t void your warranty. These Download Terms and Conditions ("Agreement") constitute a legal agreement between you (either an individual or single entity) and Nikon Corporation or its associated company ("Nikon") setting forth the terms and conditions governing your download of the operation manual for our products (“Manual”). If you are into freeze-frame the SB-910 has a faster flash duration at the far end of the scale of 1/38,500 (might not make all that much difference).

Last Update 2017: Nikon no longer sells the SB 900 or 910 and is moving to wireless RF flashes for their future remote flash and I for one can not wait for the benefit of the newer technology. Nikon has provided updates for the SB-900 firmware, something previously not done with Speedlight units. Easy enough to understand, though still a bit clunky (the SB-800's settings are much more clunky in this respect, so Nikon made progress here). The SB-910 supports hard color filters because they are more durable, stand up better to the heat generated by the flash head, and are easier to use than the gel color filters supported by its predecessor. No, they don't support AA mode, and that's a pity, but as fully manual and RF triggerable speedlights they're in many ways superior to Nikon's unreliable optical triggering CLS models.

But other than that, any serious professional or hobbyist ought to know how to self-regulate their flash usage, and KNOW the risks of overheating. if you are limited in funds and need a powerful flash you can find use SB-910 for half the cost of an SB-5000. Of course, the SB-910 seems to be better than the SB-900, but very serious advantage of the SB-900 above the SB-910 is the fact that the SB-900 can turn off thermal protection and sound. All of the complex lighting calculations are computed for you instantly with consistently accurate results in just about any lighting situation. The biggest limitation is heating it up too far, and something new about the SB-910 is that if it overheats because you've been shooting too hard, instead of simply dying for ten minutes while it cools off, it will gradually increase the recycle time to throttle you back.
