I'm a long-time fan of Gerritsen and this Rizzoli and Isles series but the last few books just haven't had the same innovative darkness as the earlier ones and I'm afraid there's just too much cosiness about this one for my tastes. Beneath the surface level of the mysteries, this is also a book about mothers and daughters, and the lengths the former are willing to go to for the latter. Sofia Suarez, a widow and nurse who was universally liked by her neighbors, lies bludgeoned to death in her own home. Every neighborhood has an Angela but she is particularly good at noticing abnormalities in patterns and behaviors. Despite featuring many of the same characters and themes, there are distinct differences between the books and the television adaptation. It is only when Detective Rizzoli makes a connection to a recent hit-and-run victim that the case gets even more confounding.Admittedly, Jane and Maura are the stars of the show - the characters I just can't get enough of; close behind is Jane's husband, Special Agent Gabriel Dean (who, I'm sorry to say, makes not much more than a cameo appearance here).

She also wrote a screenplay, "Adrift", which aired as a 1993 CBS Movie of the Week starring Kate Jackson.If you see something, say something,” Angela says, explaining how being the mother of a homicide detective has made it “second nature for me to keep an eye on my own neighborhood. It was so GOOD to fall back into Rizzoli and Isles' lives and live with them as they once again worked on a nasty and nail-biting case. When new neighbors move in across the street, Angie becomes an amateur detective, or perhaps just an overactive busybody.
