But I actually had a good time reading this, and it actually served as a good palate cleaner between the more dense books than I am used to. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn. Quirk and charm give way to a serious exploration of the dangers of complacency in this delightful, thought-provoking Orwellian fantasy from Klune.

The environment is endearing, the characters are nicely described, and the story flows smoothly with good pacing and wonderful writing.But however grim the novel’s resonance with the real world is, The House in the Cerulean Sea is always leavened with hope. A wonderfully written and funny depiction of how someone's life can change - I loved the characters and how imaginatively they are written.
