It's a game that's easy to learn, yet challenging to master, making it suitable for players of all ages. It’s a great way to wind down before bedtime as the game is usually over within 15 minutes and it won’t make children incredibly hyper. Gobblet is a board game for two players designed by Thierry Denoual and published in 2001 by Gigamic and Blue Orange Games.

With these nesting pieces, strategy suddenly becomes more important and getting the first placement doesn’t guarantee you a win as you decide where to move, what size piece to use, and whether you want a space bad enough to claim it with a bigger nesting piece. It revolves around outwitting your opponent which means you are constantly thinking ahead, whether that’s of your next move or theirs. While it can get boring to play tic-tac-toe with a young child over and over again, this game shakes things up enough to make it fun for all ages in the family. I’ve worked with Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program to construct living quarters for those in need, written content for Stonewall Alliance, and edited the newsletter for my local natural foods cooperative.The only warning we would have is to be careful if you have young babies – you don’t want them to get hold of the smallest Gobbler as it is quite small and therefore a choking hazard. Since then, I have published many papers and articles, started two blogs, worked as a senior editor for a magazine, served on the board of a start-up non-profit organization, and walked across fire.

But in this game, your piece can also gobble up another person’s piece (or even your own piece) because the game pieces are like nesting dolls. We found it helps build patience and despite the fact that it can be so frustrating at times, it was a lot of fun.We’re still working on taking turns and following game rules with her, so we’ll try it again in a couple of months. It’s also brilliant for the environment because you now won’t be wasting paper to play only a couple of games. On a turn, you either play one exposed piece from your three off-the-board piles or move one piece on the board to any other spot on the board where it fits. The stuffed animal could preferably have been double bagged inside the packaging though, since the package had a small rip and thus the toy was in risk of damage.
