About this deal

It provoked some interesting discussion; some boys were certain their parents wouldn’t like them wearing girls’ clothes. Cannot be overstated: clothes are inanimate objects and do NOT possess genders; therefore, there are no girl/boy clothes. O meu filho adora usar os meus longos colares, inclusive nos últimos dias teima em sair de casa com um longo colar de bolas coloridas que tenho, numa destas saídas um Sr chegou a fazer um comentário ao meu filho “Um menino com um colar?

Fun story about acceptance of a crocodile who finds some clothes in the swamp and tries them on and is teased by other animals. He tries them on and likes to wear them but his big struggle is whether or not to tell his “motorbike-riding, leather-jacket-wearing” dad – “would his father love him if he saw him in a frock?

The choices of anthropomorphic characters are very clever: hyenas are the nasty bullies, and the fierce crocodiles aren’t that tough after all. The support of other creatures in the swamp to put on the show is what makes the story worth the read. However Cliff is told to be himself which is the message of the book, to be yourself, and in the end it is proved that he had nothing to be afraid of all along as, of course, his dad accepts him for who he is. Cliff the crocodile discovers a slinky frock and some fabulous peals and heels, and just has to try on the outfit. The author took liberties with bullies who are not native creatures of the swamp but are mean just the same.

Serious conversations with small children are brilliant and always leave me feeling refreshed and excited for the future. Other than that, I try my best to draw every day and dream of one day writing and illustrating my own picture book. Of course, it's also a look at inclusion and acceptance and supporting your friends and family to be who they want to be.Upeasti toteutettu kerronta yhdenvertaisuudesta, itsensä ilmaisusta ja ennen kaikkea omassa nahassaan viihtymisestä! Jeanne Willis' characteristic rhyming couplets keep things bouncy and moving along at a fast pace, while Stephanie Laberis' illustrations are teeming with riotous colour and splendour. It became evident during the conversation that they had never even considered, for example, a boy wanting to wear a dress, or for that matter, any other challenges to stereotypes.
