Description

Dermatix® Silicone Gel is an advanced topical silicone gel, used to help prevent scars in freshly healed wounds and also reduce prominent immature scars. The manufacturers claim that Dermatix® products offer scar management options that satisfy both clinical efficacy and patient convenience. A specialist in burns and plastic surgery recommended starting treatment as early as possible in patients with burn wounds, within 7 days after the injury, and continuation for 3 months. The study found that the semi-liquid form of Silicone Gel proved to be effective in preventing hypertrophic scar development in sternotomy wounds. Dermatix scar reducing gel is used for the treatment and prevention of keloids and hypertrophic scars (such as those resulting from general surgical procedures, trauma wounds and burns), ideally used just after the wound has freshly healed and the skin surface becomes intact.

For scars older (as old as 2 years), it is advisable to continue using for longer until the positive effects stop being seen. At least once a day, wash the scarred area and both sides of the Dermatix® Silicone Sheet with mild soap and water. Apply a very thin coat of Dermatix Gel on the scar immediately after the wound has healed and rub it in. As scarring may have physical and psychosocial consequences, it is important to minimize scar formation after surgery and to correct non-aesthetic mature scars. This case series relating to the real-world management of hypertrophic and keloid scars using topical Dermatix Ultra and Dermatix Ultra Kids in routine clinical practice, demonstrates that it is effective for both scar treatment and scar prevention.

Silicone gel sheeting has been used successfully for more than 30 years in hypertrophic and keloid scar management.
