Coleman's Octagon Blackout 8 is a curious tent, blending some of the benefits of a bell tent, event shelter, and normal family/couple’s tent. The popular Coleman Octagon Tent, now complete with a Blackout Bedroom, to make a darker, more sleep-friendly experience. If a tent has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm it means that a 3 metre column of water can be placed on its surface before any drops will show through the underside of the fabric. The open sided design allows wind to whip through the tent in even the slightest breeze, with the retaining toggles for folding back and holding open the windows clanging against the metal poles loudly for as long as the wind persists. To assemble the tent you put the internal structure up first and then lay the waterproof roof over the top.

I have used this tent for several weekends with and without the additional porch which can be purchased separately from many camping outlets.The tent divider supplied is frankly pathetic, yes you can have two separate spaces, but it’s essentially a flimsy curtain offering no privacy. In hot weather the fly sheet can be unzipped and folded back on six sides and the inner mesh still prevents bugs getting in. give it a punch or two (on the doors) and wait for 5-10 seconds for water droplets to flow down before entering/leaving the tent. The tent is very tall once assembled and it would be difficult to throw the outer tent over the inner tent after it’s been stood up.
