About this deal

We wanted to go for punting but everything was booked a day in advance and so had to settle in for row boat.

My flat’s doorway, on Hospital Lane, steps right out onto a small sidewalk with the narrow driving lane just beyond. Apparently menu is new (April 2023) and the food we had was absolutely and uniformly excellent, good value and service both very efficient and welcoming. As well as the Canterbury Cathedral and Canterbury city centre, other areas covered are Blean Woods National Nature Reserve, Chartham, Harbledown, Rough Common, University of Kent and Fordwich. If the kingdom boasts a finer confluence of medieval thoroughfares than this, it has been keeping very quiet about it this past millennium. Before leaving Stour Street, take in the Canterbury Heritage Museum, housed in the medieval Poor Priests Hospital. The parking is a little difficult to find but there was plenty of safe parking, and hotel in the middle of town so cannot go wrong. It is is a partnership between the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent Union, Christ Church Students’ Union, Kent Police, Canterbury City Council, the Residents’ Associations of north and south Canterbury and Right Guard Security.

Framed by the Westgate Towers, the West End is the first taste of Canterbury for many travellers from Canterbury West. While my photos imply a lot of greenery, most of the city centre looks more like Hospital Lane and High Street – no sweet little front gardens, just cobblestone or blacktop.Great atmosphere and decor, staff friendly and helpful, food excellent, wonderful place to just meet up for a drink or have a meal. It is also home to the Canterbury Museum and Art Gallery which features paintings by Canterbury-born artists as well as exhibits on natural history.

The only downside is that staff need to know that when the breakfast restaurant isn’t very busy, their voices carry.

Worth for a quick stop of 10mins perhaps for travellers and can walk around in the main park but not huge amount to see.
