About this deal

The puzzles have the right features to suit different moods and abilities which make them a great pleasure to play.

There's an obvious word to put here, but let's pretend I don't see that; at any rate, it seems like there's an obvious suffix: ATION. The next two letters, t and a, could be either way around, considering the small size of the sample, but you should be able to do it by looking at the board. We’ve got you going with a couple of combinations, so all you need to do is start linking the other letters and corresponding numbers and your words will start flowing. Our high-quality technical books are packed with various types of puzzles, each designed to increase your intelligence quotient by a certain percentage.Instead, each letter A-Z is represented by a random number 1-26, with the same number representing the same letter throughout the puzzle. Technique: the ends of words are sometimes more stereotyped than their beginnings, and may be useful places to look. I very good feature is the automatic movement of the active square, particularly for the final letter which is often tricky to locate.

Since three consonants in a row is unlikely in such a short word, we expect the u to be present, which almost instantaneously reveals two common options: aunt and abut. In particular, short words can reveal possibilities, while longer words are useful for checking and eliminating the possibilities (since, while it is harder to think of words that fit, it is easier to verify that no word matches -n-at-e-n. And that no puzzle should be "ambiguous" (as, for example, if the only instances of the letters K and L were in a position where the word could be KALE or LAKE). Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ.Starters should offer a way into the puzzle, but not give away so much information that the puzzle becomes a mundane square-filling exercise. Technique: when making a guess, look to see whether it interacts usefully with other words you've already got. Very addictive but also the best and easiest way to keep the brain working at reasonable level and speed. The best approach to solving is to enter the starter letters, wherever the relevant numbers appear, and once these are in, to see if any words suggest themselves.

I don't think there's much I can do to help improve those :-), but solving Codeword puzzles probably helps at least a little bit with both. In my current example puzzle, this annoyingly still doesn't make anything super-obvious, but we now have -A-L-R as a word.Because the answer words are recognised from letter combinations, rather than deduced from clues, there are constraints on the words that should be used.
