Description

In this fun board game, contestants have just 60 seconds to memorise the position of the twelve symbol tiles before they get covered up. That includes having bigger boxes to have a more visible place on the board game shelf, and, of course, having appealing components, which one could argue, Baffled has. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Every action the player takes directly corresponds to the location of their meeple and the meeples of other players. Ask squares allow you to ask another player to either name the symbol in a particular location or find the location of a symbol of your choice.

Our testers came up with some of their own rules for the game, for example deciding that they would win back a life with each correct answer, to extend play. Baffled is a special case, because some of the things that give the game its novelty also work to its detriment. We always love finding games that we can all play together on family gatherings and at times like Christmas.Game overview: you have 60 seconds to memorise the position of twelve symbol tiles; the symbols constantly swap and change positions; you have to find symbols, name them, swap them or test other players; the winner is the last player left in the game. You probably won’t want to play a second game straight away as you will still be remembering the positions of the symbols from the end of the previous game. The cover art, whilst very funny, simply doesn’t do this game any justice; presenting what is actually quite an enjoyable, challenging game as something very juvenile and ‘above’ the average board game enthusiast. Baffled is the perfect example of why you should never judge a book by its cover, or rather, a game by its box. If your memory’s good enough, using these rewards wisely could allow you to cause serious problems for your opponents, especially if you’ve been cunning enough to figure out their weak-points… What’s Good?

As in every year, your control over your ‘Pen’ broomstick will be your main challenge against the wind, fire, and air elements of this ever changing race course. ICECOOL is a fun flicking game that is a great test of dexterity for children, teenagers and adults alike. Another honourable mention has to be Baffled’s application of memory into the game, which makes it unique since it’s not something you see an awful lot in board games today. I remember vividly a few years back, when I was just starting my now somewhat monstrous board game collection, a friend bringing me for Christmas a copy of Baffled. What's in the box sounds a great idea :) We're not big on strategy games, but noisy fun games like that are right up our street.

For example, say you land on the apple symbol you uncover the tile you think it is, if you are incorrect you lose a life and once they are gone you're out of the game. They are shuffled around and each one placed in the white square in front of the letters on the board. Founded in 1986, Cheatwell Games started out producing board games but has since gained an unrivalled reputation for the design and development of innovative toys, puzzles and gifts. It can be played with 3 or more players so you have a questioner, answerer and at least one challenger.

Great for involving different generations, this version includes cards that are appropriate for players as young as 8 years old. There are ways around this, however; one way I’ve found is to increase the number of lives given to someone who might struggle, and likewise decrease the number of lives given to pros! There is, of course, no question, that in current fast-growing board game market, games have to do all they can to stand out. N.B: We have had ads in the past and will likely do so again but our editorial space is NOT for sale. Memory games are well known for being good fun, but combine the excitement and mystery of a memory game with the rules of a board game and it’s even better. It’s not all hard work though; when another player is head-scratching over a tricky symbol and pulls off one of the covers to see if they were correct, you’ve all learnt something whether your opponent got it right or wrong (though incorrect answers from other players are always a bonus!

Failure to correctly identify a tile or space when asked will result in the player losing a life – depicted by reversible red and green cards. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Recently Cheatwell Games asked us to review two of their games so last Friday night that’s exactly what we did. In contrast, the components of Baffled, while they make the game initially stand out, quickly become frustrating, as several minutes into the game, you realise that beyond surface there is a much simpler and streamlined game.

The aim of the game is to stay in the game longer than any other player by correctly memorising the positions of the twelve hidden symbols. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This could be three fruit, three numbers, three animals, or the three things that are in your colour group.
