About this deal

It manages to preserve highlight and shadow detail without clipping, so we used it to view SDR content. You can control the color and lighting effects of both lighting zones with ASUS' Aura Sync software.

The XG27UQ comes in a mostly black design with matte plastics used for the bezel, rear enclosure and arm. This model doesn’t have the FALD HDR backlight of the PG27UQ so there’s no real HDR support to speak of, but it does mean that of course it’s a more affordable option. It can be enabled while VRR is active, and it locks the Brightness setting to max to compensate, as BFI tends to dim the image noticeably. This is provided for reference only and shouldn't be used, as the calibration values vary per individual unit due to manufacturing tolerances, even for the same model.I didn't want to skimp on the graphical detail on such a high-end panel, so thankfully PUBG is much better optimized in 2020 to handle it at 4K. Better yet, if you want everything dialed up and to ensure beyond 144FPS, remember that Overwatch supports SLI. This was not actually a major issue in practice, but put some people off considering these early offerings. Also, there are dynamic dimming / auto contrast ratio features which could potentially be useful in limited scenarios if you don’t care about color accuracy and want to maximize brightness.

This 3840x2160 pixels monitor can handle 144Hz combined with GSYNC and is a DCS monitor, and that means no chroma subsampling / color compression issues. We have all this wonderful new hardware cpming out that can finally run 4k really, really well, and monitor manufacturers in general seem to be just derping around instead of pumping out full lines of HBR3 displays. It actually has a small external power supply brick so that hasn’t even been built in to the screen here. We started in the XG27UQ’s Racing mode, where initial measurements showed no great need for calibration. There is also a small maroon red plastic trim section at the bottom of the stand as you can see from the pictures. I'm not easy on my gaming mouse and keyboard when I'm gaming, and it still took the battle of me bashing my mouse around the table without feeling like I was going to destroy an expensive gaming monitor.

to check things with, but it’s definitely not ideal, and some of these shifts go far enough that I wouldn’t recommend this monitor for color work that needs to be very accurate. It is a mind blowingly good gaming monitor, especially if you've got the graphics card power to drive it. So that means a native 3840x2160 pixel monitor with AHVA (IPS-type) based panel that can handle 144Hz combined with GSYNC compatible and FreeSync modes. Please refer to the privacy notice of the third party with which you have a relationship for information on how they engage service providers, like us, to process personal information on their behalf.out of the box the Asus has excellent color reproduction, but with some tuning I was able to match the color on the Acer.

It looks almost identical with local dimming enabled, except that the whole screen looks a bit more gray. Only 27 inches: This is one of my main gripes with the current flocks of smaller 4K gaming monitors: I find 27 inches too small, and would prefer a 32-inch panel (at a minimum). The Asus ROG Strix XG27UQ has the latest IPS tech in the form of an AHVA (Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle) panel that’s certified VESA DisplayHDR 400 compliant. With DSC-enabled monitors, there is no trade off -- this means you can have 4K + 144Hz + HDR without any IQ loss.

Of course, once you setup your screen at 3840x2160/144hz, you can and will switch Windows DPI scaling (150% works best) and that will solve most of the scaling issues, but we feel you need to tackle the problem, and tot the cause. If you want one of the best, then the ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQ is for you -- some of the best image quality on a gaming monitor that I've ever seen.
