The characters are such a delight in this, Amelia is so fun to follow and I love her friendship with Florence and Grimaldi. The deep issue in the book a round friends and parents worked nicely in the last half of the book when Amelia figures things out as the plot develops on and was actually a great twist as well as truthful in how we act to people as we develop relationships.

In itself though, it's completely its own story that, while definitely targeted at kids, can also be enjoyed by Halloween enthusiasts like myself. The story is kind of reminiscent of Hotel Transylvania, and I think the influences are definitely there--Amelia's dad Drake wearing a Hawaiian t-shirt, a short vampire prince with poofy hair, the kind of vampires who's name is Vladimir.

You can forget all the rumours about vampires not having reflections, as Amelia’s mother just loves hers! There are some good gags about "creatures of the light" who are terrifying, like glitter and a wonderful unicorn who shows up at dawn to turn things into sunflowers. Also, believe it or not, there was also a twist to the plot that I WASN'T expecting in there, and that just brought the story up a whole nother level! The illustrations are also done by author Laura Ellen Anderson, and I love the illustrations so much. Amelia Fang is a feisty ten-year-old vampire, who loves spending time with her two best friends, Grimaldi the reaper and Florence, a rare breed of yeti. And when the King’s spoiled son Tangine captures Squashy, Amelia and her friends must escape the party to plan a daring rescue! I can't believe I loved this story as much as I did but, by the end, I was absolutely hooked and kept thinking that if I ever have kids, I HAVE to read this to them!Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for kindly allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. However when she meets her ‘playmate’, Prince Tagine, son of her father’s long- lost friend, King Vladimir, she is less enamoured. This made me quite sad since the book is meant for kids who are easily influenced by factors such the books they read and even though parents are not always "positive figures" they definitely shouldn't be antagonised in children's literature. They are wonderfully Gothic yet light-hearted, perfectly capturing the essence of the story and characters.

I'm not going to lie, I've bought the whole of this series without having even read the blurb purely based on the beautiful cover and sprayed edges, and the fact that I love Laura Ellen Anderson's illustrations.
