About this deal

This poster is a visual representation of a lifetime, divided into 52 columns (one for each week of the year) and 90 rows (one for each year of a typical lifespan).

The tired, aching sun has finally dipped beneath the far horizon and for a second it’s silhouetted black against the twilight. Growing up in Texas and Oklahoma, working for a hyper-growth technology company felt like an unachievable dream that only occurred in the movies. Life's too short to be doing something you dislike and to waste time on things which do not enrich our lives. They consisted of cold, rainy weather, an ever present wonder of what is happening in the lives of friends and family without me.

But, as many folks (myself included) have had to learn the hard way – just because there’s not a definitive end date on our hopes and dreams doesn’t mean that expiration dates don’t exist. This can be a motivating and inspiring way to track our progress and stay focused on our objectives. I watched from the safety of my dorm room as the places I thought I'd always have were changed beyond my recognition.

As each week passes you can rate how your week went, get a reminder if you missed a rating and see major events that happened on that week from Wikipedia. By coloring in the squares that represent our goals, we can see at a glance how much progress we've made and how much we have left to accomplish. The 10-day Vipassana, starting a new job at a high-growth startup, building a relationship, and many other moments reminded me that the most lasting, meaningful benefits come when I put in the work. Weeks of my life is based on the concept of Memento Mori, which stands for “remember your mortality.

And when a long string of Neither Weeks happens, you become depressed, frustrated, hopeless, and a bunch of other upsetting adjectives. I embraced the new person I was becoming and focused on surrounding myself with people who build up the person I want to become. We tend to feel locked into whatever life we’re living, but this pallet of empty boxes can be absolutely whatever we want it to be. And in spite of that, so many of us imagine that life is something we can live later—and we’re especially in danger of falling into that erroneous thinking in our 20s. I didn't feel the urge to work longer hours because the calendar didn't inspire me to work more — rather, the black boxes were a reminder that you can't get your time back, so it's important you use it wisely.
