About this deal

That being said, I have no questions about recommending My First Castle Panic for kids in the 4-5 age range.

The active player draws the top card of the deck then may either play one of their cards that matches the color and shape of one of the spaces occupied by a monster, or they can ask someone else to play their card that matches. We’ve even gotten out our old Hero Quest goblin and troll figurines to spice up the display and get into the fantasy theme even more. If at any time, a monster hits the wall, the monster is captured and sent to the dungeon, but he has destroyed the wall, and it is also removed from the game. If the goblins get to the castle, they knock it down (first an outer wall, then the whole castle) and you lose. You also start the game with just one card and then start to draw, so sometimes early in the game, you can’t take anyone out. Each player starts the game with a single face-up card and three monsters waiting for them along the path to the castle. I understand it’s a kid’s game and luck is usually part of that, but I think this needs a little more balance.

Since our main focus with board games is on games to play with our kids - I absolutely love it when somebody makes junior versions of our favorite board games. If you’ve read many of our articles on family board games - you’ve probably figured out how much we enjoy playing cooperative games with our kids. Board gamers expect games to linger on their shelves for a fairly long time, but fledgling gamers will likely age out of My First Castle Panic fairly quickly. Even though our 6-year-old is able to play the original Castle Panic with me, the strategy and the duration of that game is always pushing his limits just a tiny bit.Parcels will usually be despatched on the next working day - Tuesday to Friday - after payment has been accepted and availability confirmed. In fact, if she’s ever in a bad mood, we can just remind her about that time she built the wall for us and she’ll cheer up. Having a 3-year-old and a 3 year age gap between our kids always makes it a truly remarkable experience when we find a game that legitimately works for all of us. Rolling a dice, and moving a number of spaces with zero skill and being fully at the whims of the luck of a dice, where being about to win could turn into being last just because you rolled the wrong number and that kind of game can easily cause a feeling that board games are something that are just based on pure luck.
