The multiple paths to victory means that a rough combat or unlucky card draw doesn’t necessarily sink your chances, but merely requires adaptation.

Unlike some that have combat but lean more toward Euro elements (you can win Scythe without ever fighting, for example), you’ll never play a game of Inis without combat, but it doesn’t need to be the hallmark of your strategy. I’m a big fan of polarizing games in general, even if I dislike a particular one, because chances are it’s someone’s favorite game.

The first phase involves a pick-and-pass drafting mechanic, where each player ends up with four action cards.

Still, there’s probably value to be had here in talking about what makes Inis work for people that may struggle to get a larger group together for the event. The game plays out in a thrust/counter-thrust manner between players as they vie for regions, resources, armies and victory conditions, while preventing others from doing the same.

You can achieve these by having at least one of your clans in six different areas, by having clans in areas containing six sanctuaries or being chieftain in areas where they rule over six other clan members. Epic cards can be gained through advantage or action cards and give further one shot powers, often assisting in battle.
