However, if you are looking for a book about dealing with crimes in a pragmatic way which is more geared towards sympathy for the victims and talking about policing in general, then is for you. He will take you on a personal journey to discuss the mind of a murderer, human fascination with killers and the cold-blooded cases which haunt him the most from around the world! Everyone knows the story of the Alperton Angels: the cult who brainwashed a teenage girl into believing her baby was the anti-Christ. London, 1888, and one-man's brutal campaign of violence has taken the lives of unsuspecting victims, cut the city to the core and carved his name into history. But something that stood out to me as I listened to this audiobook is that his voice so beautifully communicates a very genuine compassion and true commitment and enthusiasm for his work and I think others will be very quick to pick up on this as they listen to this audiobook.

A tense novel from a fast-rising star, Sam Holland, The Twenty fuses a chilling race-against-time with blood-curdling crime fiction. It was beyond dark and although I concede the headline of the book intimated it was no fairytale of happiness I just lacked the motivation to seek further listening. Brutal at turns and as one would expect, Hunting Killers shows, not only the unglamorous side of crime in UK's history and far beyond, but the damage it inflicts on what is left from it - the suffering of victims and its loved ones. author spends most the book describing his skills as a detective journalist and very little actually delving into real crime stories. Join us for a truly eye-opening and fascinating talk, as Mark shares his vast experience of investigating some of the most notorious cases and killers!

Back to the book, it is an extremely well written account of Mark's investigations and cases, and absolutely does not come across as a pat on the back for him, but rather you can see how much he cares about the victims and their families as it is truly conveyed in his words. I am perhaps biased in my opinion of Mark but genuinely, if this book had left me indifferent, I would have been honest in this review. There is nothing more frustrating and incredibly irritating and distracting than a very dull monotone voice which so easily can destroy the content of even the most brilliant book. Mark has also been involved in lots of famous cases including Jimmy savile, which was very interesting to read. This is written about in a very matter of fact and practical way without being sensationalist or going into lots of detail. The Queen of Crime Val McDermid is a master of the dark and sinister story, and these powers are demonstrated in full force in Christmas is Murder, a festive collection of chilling tales. Amongst his awards he has two Royal Television Society Awards, a Broadcasting Press Guild Award and an International Peabody Award. British crime investigator, criminologist, award-winning investigative reporter and former police detective Mark Williams-Thomas is bringing his sell-out show Hunting Killers to Exeter for the first time.

A definite must-read for lovers of the true crime genre and perhaps a fantastic introduction to it for those yet to explore the fearfully fascinating, darkest and dustiest corners of the human condition. This was an interesting and educational read, however I constantly felt held at arms length by the author. Over the years, many of these have remained unsolved and Mark I think will change the way this is looked at as it doesn't matter how many years have passed, it is important to the memory of that person that crimes are officially solved. In the book he takes us on a journey into the world of investigative journalism and I found it riveting. If you are a fan of audiobooks you will love this book but if you are new to audiobooks and you are looking to try out an audiobook as an alternative to another format, then this is the book for you. Society is obsessed with true crime and I have always had a keen interest in crime and have always loved the authors work and I especially enjoyed his TV programme 'The Investigator' a brilliant program. This man is amazing the job he does, trying to bring closure to families that police have given up on. The author began his career as a police detective but became disillusioned so switched to become an investigative journalist.
