You do have to think ahead a few turns and hope that your opponents aren’t going for the same tile you are! The board is made up of small tiles, so this can be a bit fiddly and smaller children might mess it up a bit while playing, but they'll be able to join in too. You can setup the different hex tiles in any configuration that you want, and each configuration will cause players to have to adjust their strategy.

However, I can see that more experienced players would probably not find this to their taste as it’s too quick and not as strategic as some may enjoy. The AI is actually pretty good and the hard AI will provide a challenge for even the adult players which is nice; but thankfully the easy AI is forgiving enough for the target audience to not feel hopeless. FFG are known for their bigger brand games such as Star Wars: X-Wing and LOTR: Journey to Middle-earth, so it’s not the kind of game you would expect them to publish. If you enjoy board games with friends but find it frustrating explaining things for half an hour before you get started, here's the game to go for. It's very addictive too, as games are fairly short and you always feel like it was your own fault for losing.

I admit that it can be a bit fiddly trying to get the ice floe tiles from the centre of the board, however it’s easy to fix if you mess it up a little whilst taking your starting tile. Two or three moves in, you'll realise that simple game mechanics doesn't mean a simple game - you're playing on a board that disintegrates as you go along, leading to rapidly increasing risk of getting stranded.

Add to that the aforementioned number of possible starting shapes, and you have a game that’s light enough to entertain children while becoming as think-y as you’d like it to be. is simple to learn, but challenging to master, offering endless hours of fun as you discover the best tactics to use in your fish-grabbing escapades. Can you supply your colony with enough food to win the day, or will your cunning opponent leave you drifting out at sea?
