About this deal

Her books are aimed towards middle-grade, but I think that everyone can get something from her stuff. Raina Telgemeier once again brings us a thoughtful, charming, and funny true story about growing up and gathering the courage to face -- and conquer -- her fears. Raina starts to struggle with anxiety, panic attacks, having a very sensitive stomach, and dealing with a mean girl at school. And without a doubt two of the biggest roadblocks in my recovery were feeling like this was something "wrong" about myself that I needed to hide and a firm belief that I should be able to get things under control myself.

She's mouthy and obnoxious and kinda mean sometimes because dealing with mental health issues doesn't preclude you from being a jerk. Guts” is a great book for kids who are dealing with an unusual amount of stress and fear or not knowing how to deal with it in a healthy way. From the popular manga "Berserk" comes a POP UP PARADE L figure of Guts wearing the Berserker Armor. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. While the feeling is difficult to explain in words, Raina does an apt job communicating the feeling through images of the character falling through the bathroom floor while struggling to stay above.Especially important is a scene in which Raina's therapist talks her through a grounding technique and deep breathing exercise, giving readers a coping technique that they can use. That's at beginning, meaning when he killed that slugman, but since it's been a long time i'm not sure. Her accolades include multiple Eisner Awards, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, a Stonewall Honor, and many Best Of and Notable lists. Although it wasn't relatable for me because I have never had strong aversion towards some food, that doesn't make the book any less honest or real. Guts” is about a young girl named Raina who is afflicted with stomach pains and a constant fear of throwing up.

One after the other, her thoughts revolve around food, what her family eats, school, what if she embarrass herself at school, what if her friends don't want her anymore. There's not a cohesive storyline, and that probably won't bother most people, but for me it makes a book less enjoyable. While there are plenty of relatable moments for readers with anxiety, I’m not sure how well people with emetophobia would manage while reading this graphic novel. In the end of Berserk all the black guys show up to prove that Guts was right all along and a giant black man with a brain for an afro causes the end of the world. I appreciate that mental health has started to come out of the closet, and that people are more comfortable talking about it.
