About this deal

I was inspired by music since childhood, and as the time passed, the passion of music grew in me, and that subsequently led me to join Head-Fi. Don't sweat it: get the 32 Ω version for an iPod or iPad, the 600 Ω version for use at home or studio, or the usual 250 Ω version if you want it to do everything. Soundstage: The DT880’s soundstage is airy, spacious, but not fully circular or 3D soundstage, but more of a 2D like with left and right separation. The combination of comfortable headband and robust yokes made from aluminium ensure a comfortable fit and excellent stability. The DT-880 is rated as semi-open but their performance is very similar to fully open-back headphones, and therefore don't isolate well.

I can very much compare them to my stereo hifi system at home ( exposure 1010 and q acustics concept 20) in terms of detail, sound separation, although these headphones do seem to be analytical, no colour at all which is very good. The soft ear pads are made from breathable and skin-friendly velour, effectively keeping any build-up of heat away from your ears and allowing you to enjoy music for hours. I do find this headphone to be really enjoyable and it is quite neutral in their presentation, in which no frequency (other than the 9khz peak) is perceivable as overly forward or recessed. The DT 880 beats out every other Mid-Fi headphone I've tried or owned in terms of build quality, hands down. The premiums also have a relaxed and comfortable clamp and headband angle, where as pro’s are quite tight and might cause discomfort when they are new. Bass-Lovely tone, great solidity and impact on the Double Bass notes, and the placement is slightly behind the Trumpet and adjacent to the piano, again the imaging is excellent.

Custom colours and textures can be picked for almost every part of the headphone individually, there is even an option of a real leather headband. They are a well rounded headphone good for someone who can't quite figure out what kind of music they like best.Without an amp, the DT880 at 600 Ohms is pure and clean, and you're going to capture surprising highs backed with tasteful lows.

The headphones differ to a much greater degree in their design, materials, and craftsmanship than their audio fidelity. Yes, ideally I would like to add a slightly heavier bass presentation to this sound, but not at the expense of anything else that it offers. In each of the seven reference songs I will specify what parts of the song I am listening to, to evaluate the 3 parts of the spectrum. There are two distinct versions, the Pro for professional use and Premium Edition for home listening.

Headphone reference notes - I like to demo all headphones against my Beyerdynamic Dt 880, as they are a well know reference can.The AKG K702 and the Beyerdynamic DT 880 are both great audiophile headphones if you like a neutral sound. The individual strings that compose the unified sound are easily identified singularly, yet enjoyed just as easily as a whole. I don't like the appearance or feel of the sharp metal clip on the adjustment portion of the Premium version.
