These recordings capture the trios at the height of Evans’s foray into leading a trio that listened and responded to each other rather than the supportive musicians leaning back and accompanying the piano. With its selection of the pianist's most captivating moments, this vinyl record has provided me with countless hours of profound listening enjoyment.

Eddie Gomez was the longest serving bassist of any Bill Evans Trio (1966–77), and Marty Morell a longstanding member too (1968–75), so it’s interesting to hear them performing with Evans relatively early on.Handpicked Selection – Includes eight carefully chosen recordings that represent the pinnacle of Bill Evans’ musicianship. On one piece, he might leave chasms of silence and finger each note with almost painful delicacy, and on another, his playing might be very dense, as if he’s compelled to explore every structural possibility simultaneously.

As with so many previously unheard releases from Evans’ vault over the past decade, both the sound quality and the overall package are excellent, reinforcing the idea that this is important music that demands to be preserved properly.Treasures is truly a ’holy grail’ discovery being released for the very first time as a limited-edition, 180g 3LP set. From your date of purchase your product is warranted against faulty materials or workmanship for a period of 12 months. In summary, it’s much more than a ‘completists only’ package – Evans fans will find plenty of interest, but so too will anyone with even just a passing interest in Evans and the possibilities of the piano trio. Mikkelborg’s string arrangements are probably too romantic (or cloying – take your pick) for modern tastes but the big-band arrangements work well, showing Mikkelborg’s indebtedness to Gil Evans – especially on the titular track Treasures, where Mikkelborg’s muted trumpet sounds like a homage to the then very recent Miles Davis / Gil Evans collaborations of 1957–68. Six solo radio performances circa 1965 take disc 2 to a quieter time and place; Evans contemplating the verdant harmonics and inherent beauty of "Re: Person I Knew," "'Round Midnight," and the only known solo, luminous version of "My Funny Valentine. More recently though I have been really into Jazz music and I was just curious if anybody has listened to Bill Evans Treasures album. Come Rain or Shine’ opens with a piano flourish so alive one almost doesn’t care whether the main melody ever arrives. The beautifully designed triple gatefoldLP set showcases previously unpublished photos by Jan Perssonfrom Evans' Danish tours, as well as insightful liner notes by acclaimed author, journalist and Evans scholar, Marc Myers, plus interviews and statements from Danish drummer Alex Riel, music journalist, Danish producer and Evans discographer Peter Larsen, Palle Mikkelborg, Evans' long-time trio-mates - bassist Eddie Gomezand drummer Marty Morell, and pianists Ran Blakeand Matthew Shipp.

The performances with two different trios, two orchestras, and Evans solo at the piano all display his masterful musicianship and perceptive ears. And so it is with these previously unissued ‘solo, trio and orchestra recordings from Denmark (1965–1969)’ on which all of those tunes appear plus a few other Evans favourites, with four versions of Time Remembered alone. type": "paragraph"}, {"id": "Ebt7JZHhcN", "data": {"text": "The beautifully designed triple gatefold LP set showcases previously unpublished photos by Jan Persson from Evans' Danish tours, as well as insightful liner notes by acclaimed author, journalist and Evans scholar, Marc Myers, plus interviews and statements from Danish drummer Alex Riel, music journalist, Danish producer and Evans discographer Peter Larsen, Palle Mikkelborg, Evans' long- time trio-mates - bassist Eddie Gomezand drummer Marty Morell, and pianists Ran Blakeand Matthew Shipp. So enjoy an ad-free AAJ experience and help us remain a positive beacon for jazz by making a donation today.By bringing together some of Evans' finest moments, this album highlights his impact on the jazz world, inspiring countless musicians and listeners. The photo on the booklet’s cover has been reversed, judging by the migration of Evans’s hair parting from left side to right – but no matter.
