Then a tinge of doubt set in—did I really want to toss more money at Barbie and her corporate overlords? Bridget and I chose the Live Your Dream Grilled Cheese, while Maddie chanced it with the vegan option, the Gold Coast CALI-flower Bowl. It was unexpectedly delightful to create my edible masterpiece, and delicious, too—the pink funfetti cupcake was moist, with a nice vanilla flavor, and the glittery frosting had a pleasant whipped texture.The coffee machine of this set is meant to be played – you can insert an empty glass, turn the wheel and the drink just falls into the glass, so kids can actually emulate coffee making which I think is very nice.

The Malibu Barbie Café, which has one other pop-up location in Chicago, is strictly reservation-only, and booking a time slot around peak Barbie madness was tricky. This playset features a stand-alone examination table with lotion bottle and other accessories, an overhead mobile and two compartments for the baby doll patients. Most of the time you’ll have no idea what’s going on: At the hospital-themed restaurant, our meal ended with a game where, if you rolled a dice and got an odd number, you’d have to have a syringe full of soy sauce and vinegar squirted on your tongue! I would have liked the milk and chocolate jugs, and the tiny jars to have additional stickers though – like Re-Ment sets always come with tiny stickers.It was easy to remove from box but unfortunately I damaged the background which is pretty cool and I would have wanted to use it in my pics. The Malibu Barbie Cafe’s pink, two-story facade is impossible to miss inside Nickelodeon Universe, and I was greeted with a semi-enthusiastic “Hello Barbie! They leave you with hilarious photos: Because a photo of you standing next to a wedding dress made entirely from condoms will always be funny. Would I bring my future daughter here one day, should Mattel get its way and launch a million Barbie sequels and Bucket Listers still exist as an experience company and get the contract to pop up another Malibu Barbie Café location?
