the memory of her lover's palm running over her back beneath the winter sunshine on a stolen afternoon, as they lay close together on a tartan blanket among the ruins of war was, even now, enough to make her weep like the willow beneath which they had sought shelter. Amanda Prowse portrays how the war had changed the trajectory of many lives and how women slotted into jobs usually allocated to men.

I once found myself at a table of “over-achievers” at a party, where the underlying message was if you hadn’t accomplished squat in life, you didn’t belong at this table and you better consider it a privilege. Although this novel is a little different with its historical focus, as ever I was caught up with the life of her heroine through all its ups and downs. Although government policy had urged a move towards community-based services for mentally handicapped people, the numbers admitted to mental handicap hospitals for long-term care went up during the 1960s and decreased during the 1970s only due to deaths among the elderly population in hospitals and reducing long-term admissions of children.

They are truly content with themselves without feeling the need to gain something because they know they are peaceful and divine souls and nothing outside of them will truly satiate them.

A person that you’re meeting for the first time will take this small bit of information about you based upon your response and use it to formulate a universal sense of who you are and how much you matter in the world. But then war forces her to make an unforgettable sacrifice, and when she’s brought to her knees by a daring undercover mission with the French Resistance, only her sister knows the secret weighing heavily on Molly’s heart. We then worked with several sites around the country running small projects to explore how they could improve the services and support available to people who have complex health needs and their families.London, 1940's: Molly is a bright young woman, determined to help the war effort and keep her head up despite it all. Amanda Prowse is an International Bestselling author whose twenty five novels and seven novellas have been published in dozens of languages around the world. The strength, support and even jealousy all come together showing us a glimpse into each of their thoughts and in the end how they are there for each other. An Ordinary Life is a Historical Fiction, with the main character Molly starting off the story at age 94. A life time of reflection, some of her memories are wonderful others are incredibly sad and you have no idea how her story will end.

The love of her close family, and their children and grandchildren as it continued through the generations. Molly's life which is filled with sadness is not totally unhappy, but this novel leaves the reader decidedly sad for her, and all that she might have had if war and social norms of the day hadn't intervened. Carrying the weight of her decisions, the separation from her son and the horrors of the war, Molly, a very very strong woman faces a life filled with so many secrets. With this series of Early Adventures, and Companion Chronicles continuing too, there should be something for everyone who loves the First Doctor and his friends.

It definitely should be on your reading list and I will be seeking out other books from the same author to put on mine. They succumb to the unrelenting pressure and surrender their lives because it’s too overbearing for them to deal with. Without giving too much away, I also need to say that her mother is simply awful … but … she was just being the only way she knew how to be, and that’s how women of her generation were: set in their ways, and unable to waver from their ‘my way or the highway’ opinions. Often when we come across stories of people during the World War II, we hear and read examples of sacrifice, courage and exceptional strength through their actions. After an emergency landing, the TARDIS crew must make the best of it, and look to their new neighbours for help.

We are going to spend the next few days preparing for our caterpillars instead, so as promised I will continue blogging about butterflies over the next few days but no photos of caterpillars until Friday now! Now, at the age of ninety-four, lying in her hospital bed, Molly can’t escape the memories of what she lost all those years ago. It feels very different to The Companion Chronicles or The Lost Stories – these are new scripts that are immersed in that wonderful black and white era of the show. There was a time when I used to think there was nothing worse in life than being “ordinary” (whatever that meant). We as a society have developed such a strong desire to be more accomplished and successful in comparison to our peers. From this learning we have also produced three factsheets to help families find out what support is available to them and a Need to Know information sheet for policy makers. There was a famous study conducted back in the late ’90s that revealed just how competitive we actually are when it comes to striving to reach a higher social status. Many children and young people with complex health needs, dependent on medical technology are unable to do ordinary things like going to the leisure centre or visiting friends or family. This really was not a good fit for me, as I found the writing and story to be almost geared for Young adults.
