Yoshizawa began his professional career with his series of Zodiac figures for Asahi Graf in 1952, and he has not neglected this subject since then. Ueda gives the letter to the Fujin Koron (the most popular women magazine in Japan) publisher, Masamichi Takarada.

With the models received, they set an exhibition in Stedjelik Museum, in the city of Amsterdam (Holland). I knew how important he was in the history of origami so I was very grateful to have had a chance to see this exhibit. Some of the groups of models, like those of sheep showed variants which differed greatly in complexity from very simple, almost abstract designs to complex wet-folded models that were more realistic such as a splendid ram with massive coiled horns A whole collection of dogs, was folded so accurately that their breeds could readily be distinguished.Despite its small size, this booklet was the first to contain some of Yoshizawa’s more advanced folding and it made a major impact on paperfolding throughout the world. Now we are forty years on and to celebrate his eighty-eighth birthday, which, because of the symbolic meaning of the characters for 88, is a specially important landmark in Japan he has celebrated his lifetime's achievement by holding the greatest exhibition of them all, first in Tokyo and then in other Japanese cities, including Kyoto.

He has strong views about the nature of folding and in particular holds that paperfolding should be something more than merely a geometrical and technical accomplishment. His origami work was creative enough to be included in the 1944 book Origami Shuko, by Isao Honda ( 本多 功). Great repercussion of the article in Japan (is one of the ways that Legman finally meets Yoshizawa). They had previously held an exhibition of the Impressionist paintings from the Courtauld Collection of London and he generously presented me with a copy of the sumptuous catalogue. Yoshizawa’s first book followed in 1954, soon after the Asahi Graf article and from then on and for the remaining forty years of his life he produced a steady stream of books containing instructions for folding his models. We entered the shrine proper through the roofed main entrance and we found a cluster of buildings both large and small. With timeless beauty, elegance, and creativity, his work continues to inspire creators and folders around the world.

Some of the pieces of origami in this book require cutting or glue or multiple pieces of paper to finish. I was asked to sign the visitors' book, the first entry not in Japanese, and then I had my first sight of the exhibition, being first confronted by two large flying dragons and a large and impressive model of Godzilla. Read more) ins pliages actuels dont certes le résultat est exceptionnel mais au prix d'une complexité et de surépaisseurs. I tried one from this section and even with my knowledge of origami and geometry I found the instructions a bit difficult to follow. Tuttle also deserve plaudits for recognising the value of this book and their efforts with other artists such as Michael LaFosse.

Each of Yoshizawa’s models has his seal or monogram beside it and they include examples of his models of animals made from two separate squares of paper. They were joined by another book, Yasashii Origami, which was placed first in the series, although this book had apparently never previously been published.
