On the surface, it's all the devastating battles and delightful characters Jujutsu Kaisen has to offer, but underneath, it's a haunting standalone story about the regret that clings to us. Connecting with the characters and their struggles seem much more real and causes much greater immersion. In the NPD Group, the manga was ranked as the fifth-best-selling manga between late November 2021 and early January 2022.

The supporting characters Maki, Panda and Inumaki were praised for developing alongside Yuta; [33] Real Sound particularly praised the bond the Jujutsu Sorcerers have in general; in one volume, it is shown Maki trains Yuta and befriends in the process, which gives further depth to the main manga. The character has different facial expressions, from the serious to the comical, and Nakamura was given latitude regarding the vocal range used. Cursed Energy and the accumulative energy that forms the intelligence of a Cursed Spirit are two of the most complicated and confusing aspects of Jujutsu Kaisen. Gojo’s as Gojo as ever, having Yuta train with the other students and sending them off on missions without sticking around to see the results. All and all, this volume is worth checking out to get to know Yuta, to see how his story relates to Yuji’s, and to feel the full weight of what’s currently going on in the manga right now.

Gojo explains Rika did not curse Yuta; rather, when Rika died, Yuta accidentally cursed her using hidden energy he inherited from the figure Sugawara no Michizane, forcing her to remain by his side. McKee saw Yuta's story as a coming-of-age story, due to his need to control Rika while making friends. While the television series was noted for having entertaining fight scenes, the team wanted to improve them. Gojo confirms that Yuta was the one who inadvertently cursed Rika through un-specified ties to royal bloodlines within the hierarchy of Japan's caste system, rather than the other way around, by being unable to accept her death. I imagine Yuta’s standing with the higher-ups is something Gojo referenced when pleading Yuji’s case.

Yuta Okkotsu is a timid, 16-year-old, high-school student who is haunted by Rika Orimoto, the Cursed Spirit of his childhood friend who died six years prior; they had promised to get married when they grew up.Over time, Yuta begins to understand his curse (and, more importantly, find something worth living for). The deluxe Blu-ray edition sold 65,000 units while the regular edition sold 27,000 units during their releases weeks, which also set records in charts, overtaking the record set by the anime Girls und Panzer. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the curse that haunts him?

This shot helps explain Shoko's role as a sorcerer and demonstrates exactly how overworked the young woman really is. When starting this series, Akutami had not planned any themes for the narrative but had the idea of giving the characters a cool appeal.

If you didn't like the first season of JJK, there's probably nothing here to convince you otherwise. Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a cursed spirit and won't leave him alone. Should any demon consume Sukuna’s body parts, the power they gain could destroy the world as we know it. The Mary Sue has a strict comment policy that forbids, but is not limited to, personal insults toward anyone, hate speech, and trolling. In June 2021, the "Juju Fes 2021" MAPPA revealed to the audience the first poster of Yuta and Rika, with Akutami himself drawing his own rendition to celebrate.
