Since 1999, he has toured as the Alan Parsons Live Project (with Woolfson's permission). The band currently features lead singer P. J. Olsson, guitarist Jeff Kollman, drummer Danny Thompson, keyboardist Tom Brooks, bass guitarist Guy Erez, vocalist and saxophonist Todd Cooper, guitarist and vocalist Dan Tracey, along with Parsons on rhythm guitar, keyboards and vocals. [11] This band performed live in Medellín, Colombia, in 2013 as Alan Parsons Symphonic Project in a performance recorded for Colombian television and also released on CD (live 2-CD) and DVD (May 2016). There are also other limiting factors lately: “I’m getting on in years – I’m 73 now,” Parsons says, “but I’m still pretty energetic, as far as making music is concerned. Having said that, I’ve developed a very nasty spinal stenosis issue, which requires surgery, so I unfortunately had to postpone the upcoming [tour] in Europe that was due to start about ten days from now. I was heartbroken about that, but I’m very confident I’ll be fine: I’ve got a good orthopedic doctor who’s going to take care of it.” His surgery, he says, is set for just a few days after this interview. introspective, female vocalist, melancholic, warm, ballad, melodic, bittersweet, lush, sentimental, eclectic, male vocalist, soothing In an age of auto tuned singers and new albums sounding as if they were made to measure it is a pleasure to hear that the old masters are still working hard at their craft. Another significant reason for naming this album From the New World , Parsons says, is “because everybody’s living in a new world with the pandemic in their lives. Third reason: my band is all American. And lastly, the fact that I’ve been living in America for 22 years now.”

Featured Parsons and Dan Tracey on lead vocals, the song featured a catchy, but anonymous melody. It would have been better were it not for Parsons flat and uninspired vocals. Tracey's contributions simply buried Parsons. Should have let him handle lead vocals. Though he clearly could’ve continued his highly successful recording studio career, Parsons went on to form The Alan Parsons Project in 1975. He credits singer/lyricist Eric Woolfson, the other half of the duo, for being “the main mover and shaker” in instigating this career shift. It turned out to be a good move: their international hits include “Games People Play,” “Time,” “Eye in the Sky,” and “Don’t Answer Me,” among many others. There must be a reason, why Parsons doesn't let the album end with "Goin' Home", which would have been perfect. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. Nothing against classical music - some of the world's most beautiful art is reflected in classical pieces. In fact 'Goin' Home appears the be based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's 'New World Symphony'. With Parsons and Tom Brooks providing lyrics, the result was pretty, but sounded like something pulled off a Broadway cast album. Parsons vocals were .. well they were certainly heartfelt. Opener "Fare Thee Well" is a moving homage to Parsons' former musical partner Eric Woolfson in The Alan Parsons Project, who passed away in 2009. Great lyrics, but unfortunately a bland chorus and an unnerving saxophone solo. THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT– 'EYE IN THE SKY' 35TH ANNIVERSARY BOX SET EDITION– OUT NOW". We Are Sony Music Legacy . Alan Parsons | From The New World – New Studio Release Review Alan Parsons | From The New World – New Studio Release Review

A few years ago, when Alan Parsons released what was being hinted as his final studio album, The Secret, I must admit that upon my first few listens I was underwhelmed. By no means was this late career offering “bad” or even “mediocre”. It just didn’t resonate with me the same way as those classic 70s and 80s Alan Parsons Project albums do, which is an unfair judgement considering one half of the Project, and their primary songwriter/vocalist at that, Eric Woolfson, is no longer with us. Hence why while the musical and recording practices of the Project remain alive and well, the moniker does not. This is purely Parsons’s vision. During 2010, several media reports [15] [16] (one of which included a quote from a representative of Parsons), [17] alleged that the song " Need You Now" by country music group Lady Antebellum used the melody and arrangement of " Eye in the Sky". In his work with Al Stewart's " Year of the Cat," Parsons added the saxophone part and transformed the original folk concept into the jazz-influenced ballad that put Stewart onto the charts. [6] Songs are very well crafted overall as that is really Parsons specialty, "Give 'em my love" is a prime example of what a great composer and arranger he is, the song just builds and then explodes. You Are the Light" is another ballad, sung by Parsons himself and including clever vocal arrangements and nice strings. Diabolic Night – Beneath the Crimson Prophecy – Defenders of the Faith on Cirith Ungol – Dark ParadeThe album title From the New World among other things was influenced by Antonín Dvořák's famous Symphony No. 9 in E minor (a favourite of Parsons' dad), and the beautiful, orchestral, self sung, melancholic, almost sentimental "Goin' Home" is based on one of its countless legendary tunes. Parsons was the sound engineer on albums including the Beatles' Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, the Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been commercially successful. He has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, with his first win occurring in 2019 for Best Immersive Audio Album for Eye in the Sky (35th Anniversary Edition). Alan Parsons - From the New World Album Reviews - AllMusic

Instead there is a cover version of the 1963 hit "Be My Baby" ( The Ronettes), here neatly sung by one Tabitha Fair. All in all, From the New World, apart from the cheap cover artwork, is a nice late addition to the canon of this 73-years old gentleman, whose right hand I once had the great pleasure to shake after a show here in Hamburg in 2004, when he tirelessly wrote autographs, until everybody was satisfied.
