World-famous and highly popular pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi has been consistently at the top of classical music charts worldwide. The maestro has authored the scores of many Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning films – recently The Father and Nomadland. Steve Nagle. This is a very simple piece—I really love the beauty of its simplicity. It’s almost like a song that you can sing to a child, like a nursery rhyme.” Underwater is a quiet, meditative, gentle album. It seems to perfectly reflect those new listening habits and will surely reinforce the composer’s popularity. With his usual politeness, he answered our questions amid rehearsals for a world tour that just started in Italy. After the spring dates across Europe (mostly sold out), in June he will fly to the other side of the Atlantic, with concerts in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The album was performed by Cecilia Chailly, one of the first musicians to use an electric harp. Einaudi released his first solo piano album, Le Onde, in 1996, under BMG. The album is based on the novel The Waves by British writer Virginia Woolf, and enjoyed mainstream success, particularly in Italy and the UK. [12] His 1999 followup, Eden Roc, was also released on BMG, with shorter pieces. For the project he collaborated with the Armenian duduk musician Djivan Gasparyan. [12] After studying at the conservatory in Milan and subsequently with Berio, Einaudi spent several years composing in traditional forms, including several chamber and orchestral compositions. [10] He soon garnered international attention and his music was performed at venues such as the Teatro alla Scala, the Tanglewood Music Festival, Lincoln Center, and the UCLA Center for Performing Arts. [11] In the mid-1980s, he began to search for more personal expression in a series of works for dance and multimedia, [11] and later for piano. [10] Underwater is Einaudi’s first full album of new solo piano music for two decades. The music was composed while the composer was isolated at his home in Italy. Working without any distractions or the usual commitments that come with his busy schedule, we are told that it is his manifesto for life, and a statement on a period during which the world around him was quiet and silent. a b c d e f "Ludovico Einaudi". I didn’t have a filter between me and what came out of the piano, it felt very pure.” Sure, Einaudi may not be composing the most complex of sonatas, but at the London premiere of his Underwater tour last week, it was not difficult to see why he is so widely respected. His ability to appeal to almost every type of music listener across the globe is a talent on its own. This is perfectly exemplified by the sheer variety of his audience’s demographic at the Hammersmith Apollo last week: everyone from young children with their families to university students to elderly couples could be spotted entering the venue. Einaudi has composed the scores for a number of films and television productions, including This Is England, The Intouchables, I'm Still Here, the TV miniseries Doctor Zhivago, and Acquario (1996), for which he won the Grolla d'oro. His music was used as the score for the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning films Nomadland and The Father. [2]

A player at late intermediate level (around Grades 4-5) would be able to attempt much of this music, while the early advanced player (at around Grades 6-7) would be able to communicate them with a full range of expression. The Publication A composer’s handwritten scores are always of interest, adding texture to our understanding of their music; happily in this instance the publishers have interpolated facsimiles of Einaudi’s manuscripts between most of the printed pieces. This piece is influenced by my love of the French impressionist composer Claude Debussy, and it has some of the same pianistic styles. The beginning part is almost like music from an ancient legend. The second half is like Debussy—I think it’s quite like the first piece, ‘Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum,’ from his suite Children’s Corner.” Radionomy". www.radionomy.com. Like a harmonious fusion of folk melody and a child’s nursery rhyme, the lovely Almost June surprises with a scintillating stanza, evoking sparkling stars.

Wind Song’ is like a waltz, with a very melancholic character. But it has that sort of winter feel you have when the days are really windy and the wind takes away all the bad things of the past, cleaning the air for the future.” Kelly, Sharon (14 August 2020). "Ludovico Einaudi Announces New Collection: 'Einaudi Undiscovered' |". uDiscover Music . Retrieved 30 August 2020. Swordfish is introspective, bringing to mind an inner monologue. Combining a touch of Baroque and a hint of Mozart, it recalls a muted version of the theme from the classic film The Go-Between. The slightly surreal Wind Song’s powerful deep keys are in counterpoint with high chords, followed by echoing notes and gorgeous transitions to cascading tones. Richly dramatic, the piece is vaguely ghostly and might be a score for a romantic thriller.

He starts the performance with milder, slower compositions from his latest album, such as Underwater and Flora, and begins to build towards deeper, darker pieces with Swordfish. His band joins him for haunting renditions of Divenire and the show closes with the ever-legendary Experience. Flora’ has a chorale beginning—a Bach-like introduction that’s a homage to my years of studying his music. But at the same time, I didn’t think too much about that: The music came quite naturally to me. After the introduction, I added a second part that features a repeated chord progression that gets gradually louder and faster.”A pianist's elegy for the Arctic» Yale Climate Connections".
