Description

I have a Joshua Tree vinyl with the matrix run out side b as U26 B //4 (upside down triangle) 420 H. The text "Recorded and Mixed at Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin" (on back cover) is in the same text block of "Drums, Keyboards. In total 25 audio tracks are previously unreleased (including the live material) and the CDs will come housed in a large format 12-inch double gatefold folio. Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its release, the ultimate collector's edition of The Joshua Tree arrives in 2017.

Its savage beauty and ominous disposition, courtesy of Bono's superb songwriting, is pervasive, but not to the extent that it becomes overwhelming. With the music canopied by this natural desert amphitheater, the sound of the album is fittingly warm and dry, catching the tones of every instrumentalist to a muted, temperate T: there's bass from Rocco Palladino, sax by Malik Venna, keys by Elijah Fox and percs by Alexander Bourt. Sure, the album cemented U2 as the biggest band in the world featuring the massively played 'With Or Without You', 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' and 'Where the Streets Have No Name' but the rest of the album is worth uncovering. Additionally, there will be a two-CD edition of the 30th anniversary which will feature a colour version of the famous cover shot set on a white background. Splitting the album on 2 LPs + the remaster have brought depth and transcendence to this album that eluded me on the single disc OG copies I’ve acquired previously.Naturally, such emphasis on lyrical obscurity and musical minimalism meant that their early albums were more often detrimentally abstruse. Needless to say, "The Joshua Tree" is a masterpiece, much less the widely celebrated classic album that U2 had been working towards over the course of seven years.

But I will say, if a big fan, this is a very cool look back at candid shots of the band just before they would explode onto the world. The 7LP vinyl version of this super deluxe edition box features exactly the same audio and exactly the same books and prints as the four-CD set. Running To Stand Still" and "Mothers Of The Disappeared" are also particularly well suited to be sequenced together as they are almost a two part track from the get go IMO. If you have a decent enough system this might end up sounding ok but I'd reccomend another version for sure.As diverse, challenging and aggressive as their previous records, "The Joshua Tree" had the additional benefit of overt immediacy, lushness and grandiosity that gave each of the 11 songs contained within an undeniable and utterly rewarding cinematic quality. I have it playing very loud in my basement and hearing the mix from a distance everything’s very present and it almost sounds like they could be playing in a studio downstairs. Every soul stirring stadium singalong is culturally momentous, capturing the very essence of the era whilst sounding conversely caustic and canorous. The Joshua Tree is U2's fifth studio album and was released on 9 March 1987 (UK and US) / 10 Mar 1987 (Europe). The one thing I would say that’s bad is that the book containing the photos taken by the edge are all upside down in my edition.
