About this deal

When children read these fact files, they can learn lots of interesting information all about dinosaurs. They can find out: Plant-eating dinosaurs may have contributed to global warming by passing gas • Sauropods were the tallest animals that ever lived. Some were more than twice the height of a giraffe. [4]

Some dinosaurs were carnivores, which means they ate meat. This would include other species of dinosaurs and also birds and insects. The most famous example of this type of dinosaur is the T-Rex, one of the most effective predators in history. American paleontologist Joseph Leidy describes the first reasonably complete dinosaur skeleton, near Haddonfield, New Jersey. Dinosaurs lived during a period of Earth’s history called the Mesozoic (“middle life”) Era. They lived during all three periods of this era: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. [2] Sue, the largest, most complete, and best preserved Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered, is found in South Dakota.

Some scientists believe that Tyrannosaurus rex may have been able to run as fast as 18 mph (28 km/h). Other scientists believe it could not run at all because it was so big. [10] Dinosaur skulls had large holes or “windows” that made their skulls lighter. Some of the largest skulls were as long as a car. [4]

The Megalodon was the biggest prehistoric fish. It looked like a shark, though it was three times bigger. [4] Once students have finished reading this resource, why not use some of our other teaching materials to continue your teaching of the topic of dinosaurs and see how much your students have learned. Other sections chart theropod distribution on the contemporary world map, provide comprehensive illustrated listings of footprints, compile the physical specifications of all known theropods and Mesozoic birds, and muchmore.
