Description

Lot of useful info in this but Hemenway really, really likes to drive home his point by repeating it 8 times in a single chapter.

The pool varies from 1m to 3m depth so caters for all abilities, with a smaller area for the very young. Gaia's Garden is simply the best permaculture book ever written, and is in the running for best gardening book ever written. Now, picture your backyard as one incredibly lush garden, filled with edible flowers, bursting with fruit and berries, and carpeted with scented herbs and tangy salad greens. The food is amazing and they prepared food for us on our first night despite us arriving after the buffet had closed. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published. I wanted to like this book but it has some of the same problems that many permaculture books do, it focuses on exotic plants to create a permaculture garden. Hemenway does an excellent job of combining biology, botany, ecology, theory, and practice to create a perfect guide for those who want to learn to develop their own piece of land for abundant and permanent fertility!

The book still has an odor of this, but if you sift through it you get some tremendously helpful information for the new-to-permaculture gardener. Toby Hemenway is the author of The Permaculture City and Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture. But this place is not large and can be explored relatively quickly, though full exploration requires doing a few side quests. The principles seemed pretty clear, the stories were very relevant as some of them were from places i've been and known. The plants themselves are grouped in natural communities, where each species plays a role in building soil, deterring pests, storing nutrients, and luring beneficial insects. While the activities provided structure and focus, it was the conversations that were encouraged and facilitated to take place between participants where the transformative work took place – where connections were built for future engagement and action.

The project platformed five young female creatives, who programmed events raising awareness of sustainability and mental health – vital topics for the 1,500 guests who attended. Five young female creatives - Tina Wetshi, Ramzia Jawara, Eleanor Grace Hann, Ananya Parwar and Andrea Siso - led the concept behind Gaia’s Garden. In the defense of this author, though, he isn't like this often or strongly in this book, and he even says that science shows that orally perpetuated myths about "companion planting" vegetables are nonsense. The thriving green space brought 1,500 people predominantly from under-represented communities back into the heart of the Square Mile. This book will be of interest to prospective readers whose interests include gardening, botany, ecology, sustainable living, permaculture, and resource management.
