Henry Cole manages to inject so much of his down-to-earth personality into this book that it feels like you are just having an extended conversation with him in his shed.

It’s a book about mindfulness, it’s a book about how people can turn their lives around even when the chips are down, it’s a book about following your dreams and most of all, it’s a bloody good read. It's an idyllic spot, offering picturesque views across the Cotswolds, bustling hedgerows, woodlands and natural springs. Since then, Henry's life can be charted through the bikes and journeys he has been on - from a stifling public-school education, via many years battling addiction, to the big-sky iconic routes Henry has ridden for over 20 series as presenter of numerous TV shows. He'll be thrilled to know in that case that I had no idea who he was as I haven't owned a TV for several years. The short time we owned a motorbike and side car make Henry's love of this mode of transport totally understandable.

He was responsible for a national system of art and science education, and in collaboration with the Prince, developed the South Kensington area as the intellectual quarter of London.

The book kept me interested to read what happens next, the next story, the next description of his vehicle collection, bikes or cars or motorabilia. It was such an interesting listen as Henry is a genuine, honest guy and he tells his story really well. I wanted more about his motorcycle collection, the work he has done on them, how much he did himself etc. Since then, Henry's life can be charted through the bikes and journeys he has been on – from a stifling public-school education, via many years battling addiction, to the big-sky iconic routes Henry has ridden for over twenty series as presenter of numerous TV shows. Henry Cole is on television most days of the year as the presenter of shows like Shed and Buried, Find It, Fix It, Flog It!His great-uncle Redbeard’s corrugated iron shed was ‘stuffed to the gills with old motorbikes’ which Henry helped rebuild and ride.

Many of these feature Allen Millyard and in the main are produced by his own production company, HCA Entertainment. Superb visual storytelling shows her hands time and time again offering a piece of corn bread, apple pie, a leg of chicken, each time on a small checkered kerchief, to the young, hidden runaway. Described as "a clever agitator, and a public spirited fellow", he waged many campaigns, moving from the Public Records to the Penny Post, to railway expansion, to patent law revision, to art and design reform. An easy and quite inspiring read - and some lessons to be learned for us all during our short lives. If the Biker in your life has lived a bit and rides through choice even if it's raining or a bit chilly he'd probably love this as a gift.
