Description

Like its predecessors before it, the LG G3 OLED is the smart buy for cinephiles who want market-leading picture quality. The G3’s OLED panel uses the latest brightness-boosting technology for startlingly bright highlights and vivid color output, and it's tailor-made for a flush, wall-mounted position. Fortunately, LG offers a Cinematic Movement setting – the most effective motion-compensated frame interpolation among different TV brands – to mitigate these issues without introducing significant interpolation artefacts or the unnaturally smooth soap opera effect (SOE). That said, when watching 50Hz broadcast material, you’re best off disabling TruMotion altogether. With it active, there were occasions when I noticed visible microstuttering during hand gestures and facial movements, and frame skipping in slow-panning shots, particularly on stronger motion settings. In terms of native 10-bit gradation, there was some posterisation in the skies of The Martian, but I was able to suppress it effectively by using the Smooth Gradation de-contouring filter. I wouldn’t advise going higher than the least aggressive setting of “Low”, however, as the “Medium” and “High” scrubbed away some fine detail. LG G3 OLED review: HDR performance

It does, to my eyes, still feature a little green tint in places but not as much as it did before. The audio performance disappoints, and this being LG’s flagship OLED, I’d have expected better. While LG says it has made gains with their TruMotion processing, to my eyes it’s not to the level of Sony. You’re given three options: Cinematic Movement, Natural, and Smooth Movement. The G3 uses a new sixth-gen Alpha a9 AI processor, which should run largely the same as previous models, with a few upgrades to LG’s AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro modes, which tweak audio-visual output depending on the content you’re watching. The former offers “improved upscaling” and object detection, while the latter imitates a “virtual 9.1.2 surround sound” on the TV’s 3.1.2 channel speakers. This new panel doesn’t just intend to break through the brightness ceiling that’s hampered OLED TVs, but smash through it, competing with Samsung’s QD-OLED technology. Availability Having reviewed the OLED65C3, it’s the time of the OLED65G3, LG’s flagship 65-inch model in its 2023 line-up. Since the LG G3 includes Dolby Vision alongside its support for the more basic HDR10 and HLG HDR formats, it can also deliver Dolby Vision gaming. In fact, unlike any other brand of OLED TV to date, it can even deliver Dolby Vision support with 4K/120Hz signals.

It's important to stress that G3's huge picture improvements pay off with game graphics at least as impactfully as they do with video. Gaming fans already loving the prowess of LG TVs as gaming displays will likely think they've died and gone to heaven when they see what their games look like on the G3. LG has changed the polariser set up on the OLED65G3 too, which means that the much brighter pictures have even more impact because they're no longer as affected by ambient light reflections as they have been previously. Whether you’re a box-set binger or a live sport lover, smart televisions put your favourite content in the palm of your hands. Key benefits of LG Smart TVs… The LG G3 delivers an exceptional gaming performance with input lag as low as 9.2ms at 60fps in “Game Optimiser” mode, halving to around 4.7ms at 120fps with Boost Mode engaged. Its four HDMI 2.1 ports support the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48Gbits/sec, permitting 4K 120Hz gameplay at 12-bit 4:4:4 resolution. HGiG support is implemented correctly, allowing for higher peak brightness without double tone-mapping in compatible HDR games.

Depending on the installation environment, there may be a slight gap between the TV and the wall. Installation may vary. See installation guide for details.

OLED G3 Series Stand and Backcover | LG USA

Unique to the G3 series in LG's range, MLA technology involves applying a huge number of tiny lenses just behind the screen that focus the light coming from the OLED pixels towards the viewer more directly, reducing the amount of light that gets lost on its journey through the OLED panel and out into your living room. And I have to say, when I first saw the high-resolution image with the pixel-perfect colors and contrast, it was like what I imagine putting glasses on for the first time would have been like. Every dot looked to be honed to the smallest degree, with punchy colors and dramatic depths.
