In true Nicci fashion, she doesn't give you the ending you've been dreaming about and wishing on a star for, oh no, that would be too humane, instead, she serves it up true District style with an intricately woven finale that is equal parts raw, messy complicated and oddly fulfilling. The first is to be the youngest leading ballerina in her academy. She will need unwavering dedication. No time for men. Unfortunately, her heart didn't get the memo, because her second secret want. . . is Max Butcher. The FMC has been obsessed with the MMC from the beginning of the book and we get a small mention of how she first saw him. So a FMC obsessed with the MMC, okay, not bad. I’ve read books like that. But this particular one. Horrible. The FMC had literally no self respect. AT ALL. While I get that she’s “obsessed” like girl… Stand up for yourself.

I honestly do not know what "evil genius mastermind" class Nicci Harris took but I need to book a spot because this series is deceptively clever. The build-up of Cassidy and Max's relationship is a refined agony, honed throughout the previous book and unleashed with a ferocity only Nicci could create. Georgia’s portrayal of Cassidy was kind, pure, driven and determined to get her man and I fell hard for her sweet and gentle disposition. Idk I physically couldn't read anymore- the writing really wasn't for me, (nor was the dialogue or characters) 🤷‍♀️.The story is not dark but not a sugar cake either. IMO it was handled well, I liked the trauma of her abuse, the way he treat and take care of her... Does Cassidy finally get her ballet dreams of dancing around the world? Will she get to be with Max or is he just too far out of her world? No, you’ll like sensory deprivation. You can hide in the darkness of my making. Relying on all your other senses. All the feelings I offer you because you deserve them. Because you’re such a good girl. So grown up. So strong. So beautiful.” He slides his hand away from my mouth slightly, allowing me to speak. “Have you been told that lately, baby?” » For me it wasn't even about what happened, but was about how annoying as shit the characters were 😭- or to put it more ✨eloquently✨: was about how unbelievably immature the characters were barely that far into the story- and how unlikeable they became because of it? I can't get over the fact that she wanted him to forgive her 🧍‍♀️.

One trope I can’t stand and avoid at all costs is the pregnancy trope. The pregnancy usually takes over the storyline, and the lovers seems to lose themselves and their spark and what makes them “them”, but I pushed through and I’m glad I did. The author made sure the characters stayed true to themselves throughout the whole story, and ya know what? I didn’t mind the pregnancy one bit! In fact, it added to the story in such a good way, and I wouldn’t change a thing! You’re a flirt,” I say, trying not to smile. “You can’t help yourself. Just stop with the face thing.”no cheating on each other while together - the h cheats on her fiance with the H when they first see each other again after a TEN YEAR separation. I loved her relationship with her sister, and especially her best mate Tony: Oh my giddy Aunt: Tony had the best lines and banter I really loved their friendship. Oh Max, (in a Cassidy voice), the tough mafia heir, who was born into a life he didn’t choose, growing up in the face of brutality, learning and experiencing first hand, from a very young age the darkness and evil that lurks in humanity.
