The ET650 is more tolerant of dropping to 80% DOD without actual 'damage', it is one of the true Deep Cycling batteries but you will lose about a third of the cycle life if you do it regularly. At a guess, you would achieve 250 cycles at 80% DOD as opposed to 350 cycles at 50% DOD. But that is only a guess. In which case the time it takes to do that will also depend a lot on the power of the installation, if it is only an 80w Solar panel, it could take quite a while for the charge to make an impact on a discharged battery bank, so it could vary a lot with different set-ups and discharges. When AGM batteries have demonstrated they don't deliver, it's time to think more about EFB which are 100% Motorhome and Caravan compatible.

That is quite a turnabout, as 4 years ago the retailers marketing arms telling us that AGM batteries were the heavy duty option, excelling at high loads. Wasn't that the reason they were adopted for Stop/Start cars, because they handled the high duty workload better? He did note that he is a habitual Tea drinker so regularly opens the Fridge to get Milk, so while it works for him, it might not have the same benefit for you.

When fitting the charger to the battery, connect the positive lead to the positive terminal and the negative lead to the negative terminal. To try and explain with more detail, it may help to look at a charger that 'experts' recommend all the time for use in Motorhomes/Caravans. They will also work happily with a 14.4v standard alternator, etc. They won't last years with the hammering from a Compressor Fridge, but should give twice the life of an AGM. An issue we often come across is that an AGM battery has been fitted for habitation use because the Charger/PDU has a setting for AGM yet the vehicle battery is Wet Lead. As in most installations the vehicle battery is also charged when on EHU (Electrical Hook Up), the higher voltage will be charging the Wet Lead battery as well and often causes damage. Not only to the battery but also to other on board electronics like alarm systems and even the vehicles ECU. We see this allot with the Schaudt EBL30 and EBL119 because, as part of the way the quality control is carried out, the units leave the factory set to AGM and manufactures and dealers don't understand that you can't mix technologies.

Does the ET650 have a maximum of a 50% DOD before damage is incurred or does it have a different DOD figure. I use the CTEK unit as an example because they do publish lots of data on how they work, showing just what a risk using them is.

Gel – Gel batteries are sealed units, just like AGM, and therefore can be laid on their side. They are leakproof and can recharge if run flat (though still not advised). Gel batteries are considered the safest option and are commonly in campervans and motorhomes in Europe. They are one of the most expensive battery types. What are leisure batteries for? This is the amount of power the battery can supply when fully charged. You can calculate your requirements by working out the consumption of the accessories the battery will power, and how long you usually use them for. safely monitor and maintain your leisure battery when it’s not in regular use.

However, it’s important to remember that, due to their internal chemical reaction, batteries The cold air inside the bags is then prevented from spilling out when the door is opened, resulting in the Fridge staying Cold and the compressor not energising. Clearly Sargent don't have it right, but then a disparity between the Sargent version of what is good for a battery and what the battery manufacturers say has arisen before. manufacturer’s instructions. The charger then needs to be switched to the correct settings forI find it quite strange that a highly capable battery such as the L36-EFB has been given a duff label by the NCC. Because unlike a car starter battery, a Motorhome Starter battery lies idle for weeks so can get quite deep discharged, something a Starter battery doesn't like.

A. Boost charging is not recommended except in exceptional circumstances e.g. a stranded customer, as this will reduce battery life, especially if a battery is boost-charged more than once. Given your really heavy use of 12v with that fridge, I would be tempted to effectively use the 'Float' setting as the main charging program and set it even higher than 14v, maybe 14.4v?C. Charge the battery at the recommended charge rate. If you cannot set the recommended rate, extend or reduce the charging time on a pro rata basis. For example, if the recommendation is to charge the battery at 4.0A for 6 hours (24Ah = 4.0 x 6), charge the battery for 12 hours if you can only set the charger at 2.0A (24Ah = 2.0 x 12). How do you connect a solar panel to a leisure battery?
