Description

When worn by itself, the taqiyah can be any color. However, particularly in Arab countries, when worn under the keffiyeh headscarf, they are kept in a traditional white. Some Muslims wrap a turban around the cap, called an ʿimamah in Arabic, which is often done by Shia and Sunni Muslims. In the United States and Britain, taqiyas are usually referred to as "kufis". [3] "Topi" is a type of taqiyah cap that is worn in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, and other regions of South Asia. Many different types of topi caps include the Sindhi cap, worn in Sindh and the crochet topi that is often worn at Muslim prayer services. The topi cap is often worn with shalwar kameez, which is the national costume of Pakistan. Up until the 2000s, Turkey banned the keffiyeh because it was considered a symbol of solidarity with the PKK. [33] Westerners in keffiyeh [ edit ] T.E. In ancient times, Turkmens believed that tahýa protects the owner from the evil eye, evil, trouble, etc. Also, according to the customs, it was believed that it was impossible to transfer an old tahýa to another person or throw it away. In everyday life, tahýa was intended to protect the head from the sun. Tahýa shapes can be oval, round, high and low. They are sewn from different fabrics such as velvet, silk, satin and chintz. If the tahýas of the girls were decorated with different colorful patterns, then the men's tahýa was restrained and simple in patterns. Men put the tahýa on their shaved heads. The girls wore soft tahya decorated with multi-colored patterns.

The term itself is a loan from Italian ( cuffia) and shares its etymology with English " coif". [1] Varieties and variations [ edit ]From the perspective of Iran, the word or title of sheikh possesses diverse meanings, among individuals who are aged and wise, it has been an honorific title used for elders and learned scholars, such as: Sheikh al-Rayees Abu Ali Sina, Sheikh Mufid, Sheikh Morteza Ansari. In the past, Islamic scholars who were the Islamic prophet Muhammad's descendants, were called Sayyid/ Seyyed instead of sheikh. [16] For women [ edit ] Swedenburg, Ted (2021). "The Kufiya". In 2008, Yasser Hirbawi, who for five decades had been the only Palestinian manufacturer of keffiyehs, was struggling with sales and has reported that sales had fallen "from 150,000 units per year in 1993 to a mere 10,000 units in 2010", [31] before transitioning from local to global online sales. [31] In the wake of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, Hirbawi announced that the company, run by Yasser's sons since his death in 2018, [31] would donate profits from keffiyeh sold in October 2023 to the Palestine American Medical Association, [32] selling over 20,000 keffiyeh that month.
