We’re always watchful, regarding your needs as creative people. Therefore, with your help, we’ve filled a market gap. How many times have you been inside your studio, looked outside and thought: “Man, why am I not enjoying that beautiful sunlight?” We listened to your cry for help and created our portable green screens, easy to mount and use everywhere. MACHINE WASHABLE: This chromakey green screen can be cleaned in a washing machine for daily cleaning, very easy to care. And if it is necessary, you also can iron the surface with low steam iron. Beware intense reflections. Watch for reflections from glasses, jewellery, and other reflective surfaces when shooting with your green screen. Items that sparkle or glitter can also be an issue.

Some of the more common materials used include cotton, muslin, paper, polyester, vinyl and fleece. Some of these will resist wrinkles better than others, and some will be more or less manageable under certain conditions. Fabric options are usually a good choice since many of the fabrics used are wrinkle-resistant and can be washed. Many portable green screens employ a frame system that keeps fabric taut and wrinkle-free. Paper, on the other hand, is an affordable and effective solution for temporary setups, but you’ll likely need to roll out new paper every time you shoot. While weight is one factor in the portability of a green screen setup, another factor is ease of use. That is, how easy is it to set up and how easy is it to break down? This is especially important to consider if you need to move or tear down your setup frequently, either for travel or to make room for life outside of video production. For many, the Covid-19 pandemic was a wake-up call. When students, employees, teachers, and management alike were unable to come into the office, people had to learn to adapt. Classroom sessions and in-person meetings were replaced with Zoom calls. Standard 9-5 hours disappeared in favor of more flexible work from home schedules. And thanks to these pandemic changes, we are now seeing new technologies that lead to lasting impacts. One such technology, portable green screens, is changing the way that people think about work. Digital Nomads Some green screens only cover the wall, while others are large enough to cover the floor as well. You can find options that are as small as 3 x 5 feet and as large as 20 x 20 feet. If you’re only shooting one person, a screen that’s 5 x 7 feet should work. For group shots, you will need a screen that measures at least 10 x 12 feet. Portable vs. stationary The number one thing you’ll want to consider when purchasing a portable green screen is the size. You’ll need to choose a size that both fits in your space and covers the entire area where the action will take place.Constrain your actors. Make sure your subject or actor doesn’t move any part of their body beyond the area the green screen covers. Even a few fingertips extending past the screen could ruin an entire shot. It’s not easy to conceive a green screen that’s adaptable to pretty much everywhere. But we didn’t stop there. We know photography and video is a timing exercise when, in a couple of minutes, you can loose that light you’ve been waiting for all afternoon. Hence the durable metal frame that allows you to mount it and fold it in a matter of seconds. We even have an instruction manual included with each one so you can learn how to do it in seconds. If you’re going to pull off the video and photo shoots that you want, you need a green screen that’s the right size for your projects. As a general rule, the larger your subject, the larger your green screen should be.

The Digital Juice ChromaPop Studio features a highly-flexible screen that can be hung or folded around practically any structure. It’s also lightweight and easy to set up and break down. This makes it perfect for taking it to any location — inside the studio or out on location. It measures 12 x 18 feet. It’s large enough to handle various large production shots and special effects. This probably seems obvious — a green screen should, of course, be green — but pay careful attention to the specific hue of any green screen you consider. Choose a screen with a uniform green shade across the entire surface, so there aren’t differences in the brightness or tone of the green. If there are faded areas on the screen, you may have a more difficult time editing your video or photos with the special effects that you want. If you need a larger green screen for bigger shoots and photography sessions, this canvas from Emart offers premium materials with a healthy set of dimensions to boot. At 120 x 144 inches, it's one of the biggest green screens on our list, and it's an ample size for wider shots, or if you're working with a particularly wide-angle lens.

Key considerations

Whatever you choose, opt for a matte finish that prevents unwanted hot spots. Remember, any variation in lighting on the screen can make it much more difficult to get clean results when compositing the image in post-production. Along with this, also consider any design features or accessories that might make travelling with your portable green screen easier. If you know you want to travel with your setup, look for a case with padded straps, for instance, or a collapsible screen with wheels. Set up and break-down Adjustable C-stands are a common option used to hold up fabric green screens, but some pop-up style green screens come with custom-designed stands that hold the material tight and in position. There are also self-contained collapsible screens available. These banner-style green screens simply roll up into a protective case when not in use. The problem comes when actors’ limbs stretch beyond the area covered by the green screen. This can result in actors losing arms, legs and even heads during the compositing process. That’s why it’s important to choose the right size portable green screen for your needs.
