About this deal

Hi. I've had the 2M Blue and Red. In my experience the 2M series is not the one for you if you want a different (Not better. That's subjective) sound to your digital sources. I found that "vinyl", warmer sound from Nagoaka (the MP110) and Goldring (the 2200).

File 1 initially sounded more "exciting", but rapidly moved to fatiguing, too bright and edgy, harsh sounding. Being new to terms of capacitance (and having much more to learn), can anyone shed light on why Yamaha would spec their phono stage at 470pF? And I've no doubt I'm missing a lot, but if capacitance is of such importance why aren't those specs easier to find? Maybe better suited for another thread. The albums- PJ Harvey- Dry, George Benson- the Shape of Things to Come, Sonic Youth- Dirty, Nina Simone- Sings the Blues.Second, I have recorded a fair number of Organ performances and have heard even more live. File two sounded much more like an organ to my ears and the brass was more natural. I had to force myself to listen all the way through File 1. I have a similar turntable and phono pre as OP. However, everything else about my system (amp, speakers, etc.) is very different. I don't have OP's ears, room acoustics, or their record collection. No "thin" or "sterile" here either. OMG am I embarrassed. Many may have noticed that I trashed the sound of both files and by extension the album itself. My system may not be at the same level as most of your readers but it's honestly not that bad-plus I have the 2m Blue in my turntable. I am also loving the SH and my experience with it ( had it about 4 months now ) pretty much matches yours.

First , I normalized each file in Audacity. File two was about 1.7 dB below file one. I amplified 2 by 1.7 dB before listening.

Is this overt crispness an anti-skate issue? I have my anti-skate set to match VTF as per AT's rec.

Why I tell you that... Because that your result looks to me more then good flat from start to finish and I suspect that this sound card something affect on this result. Your result is almost impossible to see on many setups. How many people will notice that the capacity of the modern amps / receivers phonosstage is too high? 1%? 5%? File two initially was dull sounding by comparison but it rapidly sounded more natural and less fatiguing. Better overall balance and more organic, less edgy. thanks Oscroft, I might take the plunge, everything thing I’ve read seems to conform the VM95ML would be more to my taste.I was reading some threads on a Steve Hoffman and someone mentioned the VM95L wouldn’t be ‘suitable’ with the 1500C internal phono stage. If this is any help, my VM540ML sounded terrific right out of the box, depressingly bad at about 5 or 6 hours, then started to improve dramatically at around 10 hours.
