After all the mints have been piped, then it’s time to let them dry on the counter for at least 4 hours or until firm. The larger the mint, the longer it will take for them to dry. Pro Tip #3: The decorator tip #199 fits on a coupler. If you are using more than one color, you may want to use more than one decorator tip. I only have one and had to wash it several times in between piping the different colors. Cinnamon extract: When my daughter saw my first batch of red butter mints she felt sure they were cinnamon. I haven’t tried that flavor yet but I definitely plan to! Yes, you can! Just make sure they are not overly big or they may not dry properly. You can mix them up with mini cookie cutters or even roll into balls. Personally I believe they should be in bite sizes though so just be careful on not making them *too* big. If I use extract, can I use a different extract than Peppermint? These mints can be stored in the freezer for up to two months, making them a convenient make-ahead treat for special occasions.

Easy Holiday Peppermint Bark: The foundation for this delicious recipe is the bottom layer of chocolate. I used almond bark because it’s so easy to work with. Add a bit of coconut butter and it melts down perfectly. The top layer is white chocolate (or white almond bark) with some crushed peppermints. Other than a dot of peppermint extract, that’s about it for the recipe! When coloring the mint dough, start with a small amount of the coloring since you are only tinting a small amount of dough. Add additional food coloring until you get the desired shade. I used gel food coloring. Yes. We store these Mints in a airtight container in the refrigerator. Look at the expiration date on the cream cheese to see how long they will last. These mints freeze beautifully in an airtight container. Candy Molds: You can press this dough into a candy mold (or fondant mold) for beautifully designed candies. Molded candies made great gifts at Christmas time. Talk about great holiday treats for sharing! Pro Tip #2: You can use any decorator tip that you like – star (open or shut) or round (small or large). I ended up not using the decorator tips in the photo because I wanted the mints to be bite size, so I used tip #199. The mints ended up being about the size of a dime.Homemade Butter Mints are simply the best! An easy to make sweet, buttery, and delicious old fashioned candy recipe that you could literally eat hand fulls of!

You’ll find a full list of my other peppermint offerings at the bottom of this post, but let’s talk about Butter Mints. Melt-Away Mints
