Description

Dali's illustrations have a colourful force of their own. Carroll's Alice anticipated the Surrealist wonderland: dreams and paradoxes, puns and psychoanalysis, distortions of space and time."—Dominic Green, Standpoint Schwab, Gabriele (1996). The Mirror and the Killer-Queen: Otherness in Literary Language. Indiana University Press. ISBN 0-585-00124-3. OCLC 42854066. It's all so illogical and confusing. Alice (and everyone else in this novel) constantly contradicts themselves and each other. The whole thing is utter nonsense! Though, there are a few good puns: No wise fish would go anywhere without a porpoise. Ah well. I will try it again some day just to see if I was being a grump on the day I read it and I plan to read this to my future-kids to see if their youth will allow them to interpret this more positively. After all, if Ronan Lynch from [Book: The Raven Boys] loves it then I will force myself too. En mi caso tenía muy presente las adaptaciones que había visto, o los cuentitos recortados que había leído de pequeño y aunque todos me habían gustado, ninguno me había atrapado tanto como la historia original. Muchos personajes entrañables no han pasado a la gran pantalla, y por lo tanto, muchas de estas situaciones extravagantes se quedaban en el olvido. Personajes como la duquesa eran desconocidas totalmente para mí.

It tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. These stories seem to centre on the idea of escape, escape from a boring reality in which the protagonist enters a world of exciting, and sometimes terrifying, adventure as they walk away from their old mundane life. This is a popular trope and here it works very well, Alice jumps down a rabbit hole and enters a truly insane world that makes little sense. A] stunning 150th-anniversary edition of the classic novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. . . . Dalí's illustrations afford us a glimpse of Wonderland as he sees it, allowing us to better grasp the implications, tropes and symbols the work is pregnant with."—Wan Lixin, Shanghai Daily Mrs J. C. Gorham publishes Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Retold in Words of One Syllable in a series of such books published by A. L. Burt Company, aimed at young readers.

Carpenter, Humphrey (1985). Secret Gardens: The Golden Age of Children's Literature. Houghton Mifflin. ISBN 978-0-395-35293-9. Turner, Paul (1989). English Literature, 1832–1890: Excluding the Novel. Oxford University Press. ISBN 0-19-812217-9. OCLC 18106770. it's actually day 8. i'm terribly slumped - the kind where it literally never occurs to you to read and then when it does you're like...am i physically capable of doing this? how did i ever make these words enter my head?

How appropriate for this volume to appear as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Burstein and Banchoff give us insights into the genius of both Carroll and Dalí, and then we have Dalí's illustrations, which are far distant from any suggestion of realism. Altogether, it is a remarkable voyage through Wonderland on a new plane—an enlightening and pleasurable adventure."—Morton N. Cohen, author of Lewis Carroll: A Biography

It would be reasonable", said Alice, in the grown-up tone she had sometimes heard her sister use, "It would be reasonable for you to explain what the book is about, so that I could put that in my review."
