Description

Many modern audiences are used to seeing Satan as a chiseled, handsome man, such as in the 2016 Netflix series "Lucifer". This incarnation of the devil first appeared in the 17th century. In 1667, John Milton published his epic poem " Paradise Lost," which tells the story of Satan's expulsion from heaven and his temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. According to Nancy Rosenfield's book " The Human Satan in Seventeenth-Century Literature" (Ashgate Publishing, Ltd., 2013), Milton shows Satan as "a heroic military leader," who is "the most attractive of the satanic characters of 17th century literature." In this first or second century B.C. statue, housed at the National Archaeological Museum. in Naples, Italy, the god Pan grapples with a goat. Scholars disagree on when Satan first became depicted as or linked to goats and or the deity Pan. (Image credit: Mondadori Portfolio/Getty)

As in Christianity, Iblis was once a pious creature of God but later cast out of Heaven due to his pride. However, to maintain God's absolute sovereignty, [54] Islam matches the line taken by Irenaeus instead of the later Christian consensus that the devil did not rebel against God but against humanity. [55] [42] Further, although Iblis is generally regarded as a real bodily entity, [56] he plays a less significant role as the personification of evil than in Christianity. Iblis is merely a tempter, notable for inciting humans into sin by whispering into humans minds (waswās), akin to the Jewish idea of the devil as yetzer hara. [57] [58] In 1936, the American writer Stephen Vincent Benet wrote " The Devil and Daniel Webster" in which the character Mr. Scratch (Satan) fights for his right to a man's soul in a court of law. In a similar vein, the 1997 film "Devil's Advocate" sees Al Pacino play Lucifer as the head of a shady New York City law firm.

Shoghi Effendi quoted in Hornby, Helen (1983). Hornby, Helen (ed.). Lights of Guidance: A Baháʼí Reference File. Baháʼí Publishing Trust, New Delhi, India. p.513. ISBN 81-85091-46-3.A clutch of between three and ten eggs is laid between September and December. A nesting burrow of about 30 centimeters underground is where the eggs will stay until they hatch about three or four months later. The survival rate depends on whether or not the eggs or young lizards are captured by wild birds and goannas. 9. Females are bigger than males. In the Bible, the Book of Isaiah 14:12 reads: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations." This is a direct reference to God casting out Satan from heaven. "Lucifer, the 'morning star' is the expression with which Isaiah defines a future king of Babylon," Montesano said. "The fathers of the early medieval church, however, elaborated the figure of Lucifer far beyond the biblical text, making him the rebel angel and transforming him into the paradigm of pride as the capital sin." And I threw him out from the height with his angels, and he was flying in the air continuously above the bottomless" – 2 Enoch 29:4

Braun, C. D., Skomal, G. B., Thorrold, S. R. & Berumen, M. L. Diving behavior of the reef manta ray links coral reefs with adjacent deep pelagic habitats. PLoS ONE 9, e88170 (2014).Hendrik Klinge: Die moralische Stufenleiter: Kant über Teufel, Menschen, Engel und Gott. Walter de Gruyter, 2018, ISBN 978-3-11-057620-7 Deep-diving behaviour in marine fishes is often associated with physiological thermoregulatory capabilities that allow for the generation and retention of heat in critical tissues. Indeed, the convergent evolution of cranial endothermy in lamnid sharks and scombroid fishes suggests that the maintenance of brain activity and visual acuity in deep, cold waters has conveyed significant selective advantages to these groups over time 6. While most endothermic fishes are apex predators, cranial endothermy has also been identified in several species of myliobatoid rays. For instance, several species of devil rays in the family Mobulidae possess well-developed retia mirabilia around the cranial cavity 7. The presence of a heat-exchange system in these species was perplexing as mobulids were thought to be surface-dwelling filter feeders inhabiting warm temperate to tropical epipelagic waters. The authors concluded that the cranial rete cooled rather than warmed the brain as these rays were known to bask at the surface in tropical waters. More recent examinations 8, 9 concluded that the retia in Mobula tarapacana and Manta birostris likely did act to warm the brain, although it was not clear what benefit the counter-current system provided for species that apparently did not encounter cold water. While Tail Devils were getting decent publicity — they didn’t have magazine ads, but Powell O.G. Frankie Hill agreed to skate them — they had certain logistical problems to resolve. a b Al-Saadi, Qais Mughashghash; Al-Saadi, Hamed Mughashghash (2019). "Glossary". Ginza Rabba: The Great Treasure. Satellite archival tagging results from the central North Atlantic revealed that M. tarapacana is a truly oceanic species capable of traversing long distances through oligotrophic tropical and subtropical waters. All tagged rays remained in oceanic environments throughout the deployments, and it is clear that M. tarapacana is capable of rapid, long-distance migrations throughout the Atlantic Ocean. Our results are in contrast with data from PSAT deployments on Mobula japonica in the eastern Pacific 10 and Mobula mobular in the Mediterranean Sea 11. Horizontal movements by devil rays in both these studies were much more limited than those we observed. Most of the rays tagged in our study also frequently dived to depths of at least 1,500 m and were consistently encountering ambient water temperatures <5 °C. These results expand the known vertical and thermal habitat of mobulid rays by over 1,000 m and 10 °C, respectively.Wadie Jwaideh The Kurdish National Movement: Its Origins and Development Syracuse University Press 2006 ISBN 978-0-815-63093-7 p. 20 Campagno, L. The thorny devil is listed under the category of ‘ Least Concern’ on the IUCN conservation list. While this means there is no immediate concern for the time being, at least it is noted with a status.
