I am currently editing my first YA novel which I hope to be able to share with you all in the future. The fact that Belle comes from a wealthy family and has some opportunities such as a carriage makes it easier for them to go around the city to chase the possible suspect. Lizzie is a very courageous girl who is curious and has the features of a detective because she has the talent for noticing details that other people can’t.

I absolutely flew through this brilliant new detective series, reading both the physical book and listening to the audiobook. My favourite character out of the two is Belle, for she forgives Lizzie when she wants to do the mystery her way. However, when Lizzie and Belle were delivering their speech at the theatre, I found it quite sad when some people started to walk out. Lizzie in depth, what she thought of certain individuals and their actions, and comments on her thoughts in general. The chapters, themselves are quite short which all make this easily readable for its intended age group. This is a four-week Writing Root based around the book The Lizzie and Bell Mysteries: Drama and Danger by J. The girls meet up and decide to track down this mysterious figure, becoming involved in the abolitionist movement and the unlawful seizure of Black people from the streets of London to be sent to the Caribbean as slaves.

Woven into this compelling and exciting story are details about the perils of being a Black person in 18th century Britain, pre the abolition of slave trading. The next day Lizzie set off for the Kenwood house, the residence of Belle, where she lived with her Uncle and Aunt. This is an engaging mystery of two girls, Elizabeth Sancho and Dido Belle, which is set in 18th-century London. I highly recommend this book to young readers as the story is easy to read with its chain of events that stirs up curiosity in the reader until its end. It also includes fantastic character, Ignatius, Sancho and his children (of which Lizzie is one) and wife and the entire premise of a society that doesn’t trust black people , yet is putting on a play of Othello, starring a black man which is controversial, some people are concerned that the only portrayal of black people on stage is of a murderer.

My favourite moment in the story was very close to the end, when the mischievous duo tricked their enemy! The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Drama and Danger: New for 2022, a mystery-filled detective story for children, perfect for fans of Robin Stevens! There’s an absolute bumper crop of brilliant books out this summer, but my pick has to be the first in a brand new series, The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries by JT Williams (June, Farshore). The next instalment The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Portraits and Poisoning is coming soon and I cannot wait to read it.

One of the most important events is the large incident eight at the beginning of the story; this is what most of the detective work is based on. I really like books with genres based around mystery and adventure (and therefore detectives), so this book’s title really sparked my curiosity. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with relatable and likable characters.
