These inaccuracies are disappointing, especially since LEGO has produced appropriate attire for Snowspeeder pilots before. Nevertheless, the torso and legs are both highly detailed and Luke's helmet looks good, featuring Rebel Alliance symbols alongside authentic hazard stripes. The dual-moulded helmet from 75218 X-wing Starfighter remains exclusive to the 2018 set. Overall, this was a good set which received a fair amount of criticism for its price. After all, you got 200 less pieces for just about the same price. It did have a decent minifigure selection which apparently was not good enough for the LEGO community.

Another opening hatch is situated towards the front and houses a Technic gear. Turning this gear deploys a string from underneath the AT-AT, forming Luke Skywalker's ascension cable. The cable has appeared with every previous model, although it has never been able to move. Once again, the designer has found use for almost every available space! Posing the AT-AT requires some patience – if you position one of those legs wrong, it will start sliding and end up floored. Nice positioning is definitely possible thanks to multiple joints in each leg, as long as you take your time. Getting subtle leg shifts in place is incredibly satisfying as it does leave the machine looking as if it is about to take a step, especially when the head position is also taken into account. — Characters — Six years is a long time in LEGO design, so 75288 AT-AT has the potential to offer something worthy of fans’ attention. — Set details —The majestic Imperial AT-AT is probably the most celebrated ground vehicle from across the Star Wars universe and 75288 AT-AT deserves similar praise. This model appears extremely accurate to the source material and looks spectacular on display, featuring tremendous detail which comfortably surpasses any previous rendition of the AT-AT. The interior is excellent too, accommodating numerous minifigures, supplementary models and enjoyable functions. The moving panel that provides access to the main body’s interior is great – it pulls out and then can be pushed up out of the way, allowing full access to the troop area no matter how big your fingers are. There are five seats inside, so anyone who has extra Snowtroopers can load it up. It’s probably better to have extra chairs than the trapdoor that was included in 75054 AT-AT.

In terms of the build, it is not as boring as you would expect having the four identical legs. Unfortunately, it is not as sturdy as I wish it could be. During the build, some sections fall apart when you attach them to the base. AT-ATs can deploy speeder bikes for reconnaissance missions and this model accordingly includes one speeder bike. The same feature appeared in 4483 AT-AT and the location of the speeder garage has remained consistent, inside the rearmost section of the body. Opening the surrounding panels reveals several unsightly Technic elements but permits easy removal of the speeder bike which is perfect for play.

Two armoured Snowtroopers complete this minifigure selection and remain unchanged from 2019, where the same troopers appeared in three sets. Their helmets include lovely moulded detail and I like the different heads underneath, corresponding with the AT-AT Drivers. These components are both relatively common but I appreciate the variation between them and their severe facial expressions seem ideal. One of the most significant differences in the Heavy Assault Walker is the position of the legs. The front legs here are attached at a higher point and also provide fewer movement capabilities. The legs have specifically designed in such a way that they require a buildable LEGO tool which when used articulates the legs in to different positions. A clear example of how the main body has been improved is in the additional sloped panels on this version – rather than just feeling like a box, subtle shifts in the shaping accurately reflect the way the movie prop looks on-screen. There’s also a little more texturing than we’ve seen before thanks to grille tiles and recessed sections, which really gives the model the mechanical feel it demands. This set, however, has one or two positive features that we have to mention. The first one is the minifigure selection. Compared to the previous two versions which had 4 minifigures each, here there were 8 including C-3PO, Han Solo, and the less common General Veers.

One apparent difference between this release and its immediate predecessor 75054 AT-AT is that it’s a few centimetres longer, which improves the proportions significantly. There’s something about this set that you immediately notice as being more screen-accurate, without necessarily realising what it is. It’s amazing what difference just a few studs can make. When you take things into consideration, it could be troublesome to choose one that could be named the best. If you want an AT-AT that is accurate to the movie version, you should buy the UCS AT-AT. On 9th November 2021 LEGO revealed their next instalment into the Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series in the form of a giant AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport). The set has a total of 6,785 pieces which firmly puts it very near the top of the biggest LEGO set list. It does look good as a display piece and possesses quite a few playability features. The design, however, is honestly not good enough and could have been significantly improved. Luke Skywalker has accompanied three previous AT-AT models, taking inspiration from his memorable destruction of one such vehicle using a thermal detonator during the Battle of Hoth. This minifigure was introduced with 75235 X-wing Starfighter Trench Run so wears X-wing pilot fatigues instead of an accurate Snowspeeder pilot uniform, that should include white gloves and simpler belt decoration. This version of the AT-AT Walker does not reinvent the build method for the vehicle. Instead, it adapts and improves a design that has worked well several times before. The basic shape of the All-Terrain Armoured Transport has been captured so well in the past that it would be ludicrous to try some completely new structural method at this point. The design really has been elevated this time around, though, with even some small improvements offering a much-enhanced model. Furthermore, this rendition of the AT-AT is larger than its predecessors, measuring 38cm in length and 35cm in height. 75054 AT-AT, by comparison, measures 34cm in length while its height is similar, reaching 34cm. These differences seem relatively minor but the new model also maintains a more consistent width throughout the length of the troop compartment. This whole vehicle therefore seems more substantial than past examples. If you want a fairly nice design and a great minifigure selection, then the 2010 version is the best choice for you. However, if you are looking for a great design which is robust and will not break when you move it around, then the 2014 version is the perfect choice. Also, it will be the cheapest option out of all today.
