I think it would be better without the metal washers either side of the chassis bracket and exhaust bracket - I think it would give a little more flex and transmit less noise. The leaders of the local classic club happened to have both of the subframe mounts laying around so he let me have them. The rear silencer doesn't come far enough forward to pick up on the centre mounting bracket neatly (the bracket aligns with the clamp that secures the silencer to the collector).

bolts can be prone to brittle fractures and if the exhaust took a severe knock on the ground it is possible that the bolt could experience a bending load if was forced to move beyond the range of free movement afforded by the bracket holes (but there is so. I checked this before assembling as I wanted to ensure that over the likely range of movement in use the load would be borne by the rubber and not by the bolt "locking" in the holes, which would have imparted large bending loads. Ok ive found this as well not using the rubber bobbin setup that you have but uses the fixed set up for the rear mount! Now not all exhaust have the same mountings and hangers but this will give you an idea of what a good setup should look like! There is a real problem with the quality of rubber components for classic cars at the moment, I've had steering rack boots that have split in just over a year and a vacuum pipe connector that hasn't lasted 8 months. Also, is this something I could conceivably work on myself, or would I be better taking it to an exhaust specialist? I think this is just a box which has been modded to fix the exhaust system Not sure if you can fix it without making new exhaust mounts. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

This isn't helped by speed bumps frequently hitting the end of the bolt out of the bobbin and twisting round the exhaust hanger. I was very careful to realign, slot, file, bend, adjust all my mounts to take and stress out of the bobbins as far as possible - ie it looks when installed, nice and straight, not angled between top and bottom, not in shear. there should be two rubber bobbins on the rear mount of the exhaust and mid join looks like its just a threaded bar welded to the box. I replaced my perished exhaust bobbin with one from a local motor factors but 6 months on it looks as bad as the one it replaced. I should imagine the only significant movement in the bush is in the roll axis when inertial forces on the mass of the silencer, which is outboard of the mount, cause the whole exhaust system to flex in torsion. What has always concerned me though was the fact that the while system was supported by a Mini exhaust bobbin which, if it failed, could allow the whole system to drop. I must admit I don't see the advantage of a poly bush isolator for something like an exhaust, though. Also, having the header or downpipe secured to the differential; having the subframe remounted with solid items on anything newer than MK III cars, and having the engine securely mounted are crucial to mini exhaust longevity. Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 13:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). Assuming it's an RC40 (I wouldn't know, it looks like it could be though) would this kit contain all the bits I'd need?
